Hi, I am Anna McDonald. I am a licensed clinical social worker specializing in assisting individuals and couples to work through life's conflicts. I do so through a multi-faceted approach, focusing first on the unique strengths of my clients and then collaborating with them to be empowered and move through these challenges. Therapy with me is more than just, “How does that make you feel?” and nodding my head. Instead, I am an individual working to empower my clients with research-based knowledge to improve their life conditions.
Hello and thank you for stopping by! I received my Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from California Southern University (2019) and my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Southern California (2010). I am a faith based therapist who works with high functioning individuals, youth/adolescents, adults in college and the work force, people with health challenges, and those facing various issues, such as improving communication, enhancing relationships, gaining clarity, and feeling stuck. My specialties include adjustment difficulties, spirituality, loss and grief, life stressors, relationship issues, first generation, school issues, attachment and immigration trauma. I adapt my treatment approach to each individual client, and though I often use a psychodynamic approach with cognitive behavioral interventions, and stress reduction techniques, I frequently use techniques from family systems, object relations, humanistic therapy, narrative therapy, and client-centered. I'm a good match for individuals longing to connect with themselves, partners figuring out how to be true to themselves in a committed relationship, and parents wanting to be more conscious parents. I offer therapy sessions in English and Spanish via telehealth only. Please note that I am a self-pay practice. I am not an in-network provider with any insurance, nor do I work directly with insurance companies. Being a self-pay practice helps maintain the utmost level of privacy for my clients. I find it essential to let you know that insurance companies require a formal diagnosis to apply for reimbursement. The insurance company may also request your therapy records. The diagnosis would stay in your insurance records without the possibility to amend or change it, even after the circumstances in your life improves. Self-pay provides and allows the provision of services without the restrictions of insurance regulations, insurance adjusters, or their third party adjusting agencies. I am currently a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California: LCSW # 79259

I’m an Associate Clinical Social Worker currently practicing in Los Angeles. I am able to work with clients in California and Connecticut. I have had the privilege of working with teens, adults, parents and families who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, and beyond. "Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom." - Victor E. Frankl Making the decision to seek therapy is often a deeply personal one and something that you may not have come to easily. The unknown aspects of therapy can be intimidating, but I am here to create a safe and accepting environment where you can embrace your true self, with all its vulnerabilities and honesty. My belief in the innate power of every individual to grow and transform their lives fuels my passion for therapy. I am dedicated to fostering a collaborative and open-minded relationship with you. As the master of your own life, I see myself as a tool, utilizing my expertise to help you discover the best possible version of yourself and your life. On a personal note, I hold a BA in Psychology and an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy. Working with individuals who are ready to confront their challenges and make positive changes is my true calling. Our life experiences can have far-reaching implications, affecting relationships, work or school performance, self-image, and overall beliefs about oneself and the world. I enjoy working with diverse clients, including teens, young adults, singles, parents, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. While I take my work seriously, I am, by nature, a truly laid-back person and strive to make you feel welcomed and supported throughout our journey together. In the words of Abraham Maslow, "In any given moment, we have two options: to step forward into growth or to step back into safety." I commend you for taking that first step forward.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by your emotions? Have you experienced childhood, family, or identity trauma that has left you feeling stressed and anxious? Or perhaps you're simply looking to understand yourself better and lead a happier life. If any of these resonate with you, I can help. I have five years of experience working in various clinical settings, including suicide hotlines, community mental health, sexual health clinics, and hospitals. Through my experiences, I have developed a deep understanding of the challenges faced by individuals seeking mental health care, especially with AAPIs, young adults, immigrants, and the LGBTQ population. As a Taiwanese American who immigrated to America at 12 years old, I have firsthand experience of the challenges individuals from immigrant communities face. I also understand the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQ population, and I'm committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all of my clients. In my work, I view my clients from a social justice lens and address systemic issues that impact mental health. I utilize a range of therapeutic approaches to help my clients achieve their goals. As a trauma-informed therapist, I recognize that the effects of trauma can be pervasive and long-lasting, and I work collaboratively with my clients to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to their unique needs. I also incorporate Brainspotting and EMDR into my work to support clients in processing their trauma. I also offer video games and virtual reality (VR) therapy to help you explore your strengths, manage your moods, and devise solutions to overcome your challenges. These innovative approaches can be especially helpful for clients who are seeking a more interactive and immersive therapy experience. Together, we can work towards building a happier and more fulfilling life. So if you're ready to take the first step, I encourage you to schedule a 15-minute phone call with me today.

We believe that all of us are looking for a sense of fulfillment and well-being in our lives. We experience this well-being as a sense of ease, unrestricted flow of life energy. However, when negative events happen and we perceive ourselves as broken, or not safe, we constrict the flow of well-being, resulting in feelings of pain, fear, anger, grief... The Process Model of therapy helps us to identify our constrictions and release them, allowing our life energy to flow freely again, bringing the sense of relief and re-connection to self, others, and the world around us. Coming into a counseling session is much like going on a tour to explore yourself: how you got where you are today, what you can do to set yourself free, what you can do to change your life. Our counselors are much like guides employed to walk with you on this journey of self-discovery; they invite you to look deeper beyond the story, stay in the present moment and keep the focus on yourself. They are trained to respect, trust, and follow your process into and through your unresolved issues, without judgment or agenda. We are a non-profit and charitable organization incorporated in the state of California since 1982, with a mission to train pre-licenced professionals in the skill and art of psychotherapy. We have many clinicians available to work around your schedule and price range. We are committed to offer therapy to people of all means and backgrounds, and welcome diversity in all its forms.
We have a number of clinicians that specialize in working with college age students. Some of the issues we treat (including, but not limited to) school stressors, sexual abuse, physical abuse, impact of covid-19, anxiety, depression, dissociative disorders and more. We also offer approaches such as EMDR, Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems, and more. We appreciate how challenging it can be to find a therapist, and we are here to help the process be as smooth as possible. We are dedicated to making sure we help find the right fit for your needs.
College can be exciting, stressful, confusing, and really lonely all at the same time. Between classes, jobs, and figuring out who you are, it’s easy to feel isolated, stuck or disconnected from yourself. I’m a genderqueer therapist who works with lgbtqia+ students and those navigating loneliness, depression, identity, relationships, and feeling unseen or unheard. I take a gentle and explorative approach, noticing how your thoughts, emotions, and body show up in the moment. I love to support folks in figuring out their identity, managing perfectionism or “people-pleasing,” or healing from family or religious harm. Therapy with me is collaborative, grounded, playful, and sometimes funny (jury's still out on that one...). You don’t have to have it all figured out - you just need to feel ready to show up for yourself. And I'm here to show up alongside you. I also support folks seeking gender affirming care and write free letters for care services. 5 weekly sessions are required before a letter can be written.
