My expertise is in helping people change how they feel or behave using evidence-based therapy and guidance. I focus on building a trusting relationship in which you feel open to discuss and work on whatever aspects of your life that you are hoping to change. People tell me they quickly feel at ease talking with me. Together we assess what feelings, thoughts or behaviors you would like to change or feel differently about or how you would like a relationship to be different. We make goals together to guide this process. I then guide you on how to make these changes, sustain them, and assess when you have attained them.

I specialize in supporting individuals from Asian, Asian American, and multicultural backgrounds who navigate bicultural or multicultural experiences. Additionally, I work with individuals who identify as Highly Sensitive Persons (HSPs) or Empaths and have experienced childhood relational trauma. I offer contemplative somatic psychotherapy and coaching services. Contemplative somatic psychotherapy and coaching are integrative approaches that combine mindfulness, body-based practices, and talk therapy to explore the mind-body connection. This therapeutic method focuses on understanding how emotions and experiences are stored in the body and utilizes techniques to promote healing, self-awareness, and personal growth.

We are a fee for service clinic and do not accept insurance. Credit card payments are made through a secure online system. You may look like you are holding it together, but inside you feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and tired of riding an emotional rollercoaster. Maybe anxiety, depression, trauma, or intense mood swings are making it hard to show up at work, in relationships, or even for yourself. If you feel like your emotions are too big, your thoughts race, or you keep repeating patterns that hurt you or the people you love, you are not alone. Together we can slow things down, make sense of what you are going through, and build skills that actually work in real life. I specialize in anxiety, trauma, depression, mood and personality disorders, relationship issues, and substance use. I use DBT, CBT, EMDR, and mindfulness based tools to help you reduce self blame, manage crises, set boundaries, and create steadier relationships with yourself and others. Clients describe me as warm, direct, and nonjudgmental. I will honor your story while also gently challenging the beliefs that keep you stuck, so therapy feels like a real partnership instead of you doing this on your own. If you are ready to feel more grounded and hopeful, request a session through my Headway link. https://care.headway.co/providers/christina-mathews?state=COLORADO

You don't need a crisis to reach out. Maybe anxiety is running the show more than you'd like. Maybe a transition, a change in direction, a decision you're not sure how to make, has thrown you off balance. Maybe you just need somewhere to unload without other people's opinions weighing in on it. I also work with people looking at their relationship with alcohol or substances, whether that means active (mis)use or just a feeling that it's worth a closer look. Sessions are practical and conversational. I keep things straightforward and focused on what's really going on with you.

“With adversity comes opportunity” from the I Ching- Or Book of Changes The decision to seek therapy can be due to times of stress or the desire to seek change. We know that change is not always a straight path. To take a “road less traveled” can be filled with a beautiful river that flows and leads to clarity or it be a be a river filled with large boulders that need to be traversed with help and support. Therapy can be a tool that facilitates resilience and transformation. My approach in therapy is to first engage in a process of discovery. As your therapist, we will work together to discover what events, situations, and relationships in your life or your past do not work for you now. It is really important to understand how your life works in order to set goals and create change. Most importantly, it is important to remember that change affects all the people in your life. There’s no guidebook for life. It’s easy to feel like you’re falling short when you’re just trying to get through the day. Maybe you’re feeling exhausted, overwhelmed or unmotivated, but continue pushing yourself because you believe there’s no other option, all the while feeling that you’re never measuring up. It might feel like a foreign concept to slow down and listen to what you truly need in each moment, but with the right support, making this shift is possible, and it might give you the relief you need. I’ll focus on helping you learn to be kind and compassionate toward yourself so that you can start living your life from a place of “already enough,” and begin taking actions that truly support your well-being. Sometimes, learning to accept yourself as you are is the first step toward meaningful change. Together, we can explore what might be getting in the way of becoming the person you want to be. I'm here to help you learn how to embrace the person you already are to create the life you desire. If this feels like the right path for you, I’d love to explore working together.

In 2015, I began my own therapy journey, and it truly transformed my life. Understanding myself better and gaining awareness of why I respond the way I do gave me a sense of control and empowerment that I had never experienced before. For the first time, I realized that I could change how I show up in my daily life, how I respond to challenges, and how I engage in relationships. This profound experience inspired me to pursue a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling, so I could help others feel the same sense of empowerment and growth. I prioritize creating a space where my clients feel heard, seen, and validated. When they're ready, I gently challenge them to increase their self-awareness, shift their perspectives, and focus on what they can control. My approach is rooted in compassion and understanding, and I use a combination of person-centered therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help my clients process trauma, manage anxiety, and build healthier thought patterns.

It's dangerous to go alone! If you're struggling to cope with stressors or experiencing mental health concerns, you deserve help. Together, we can understand your life experiences so far and envision a better world moving forward. I believe the stories we love can help us heal from our real-life experiences. Stories of heroism, triumph over the odds, and simple survival remind us of our shared humanity and our resilience. Whether it’s a video game, a book, a movie, or a TV show, we can use those references in our talk therapy to understand and change your hero’s journey for the better. I utilize psychodynamic and person-centered counseling to assist you in growth. In addition to mental health counseling for a variety of concerns, I am also passionate about gender-affirming care and have assisted clients in transition by providing necessary documentation and exploring gender expression.

There is no “right” way to do therapy, and people need different kinds of help depending on their current life situation and stage of life. Some clients are in need of coping skills to help them with communication, emotion regulation and getting through stressful times. Other clients are looking for help finding meaning and purpose in their day to day lives. I use a combination of mindfulness, dream work, interpersonal skills, guided meditation, coping skills and active imagination to help clients find relief from symptoms related to anxiety, depression, lack of meaning, and struggles in their relationships. Over the last 25 years, I have worked in a variety of clinical settings helping people with various psychological difficulties including combat related issues, severe and persistent mental illness, cumulative relational trauma, psychological struggles related to brain injury, and trauma related to disasters and violence. I believe the goal of therapy is not necessarily to help clients pursue a “happier” life, or even self-awareness for the sake of self-awareness, but to better be able to bring a more soulful way of living back out into their lives; their families and relationships, communities, and the greater world.

Starting or navigating college is a massive transition, and it’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed. Many of the students I work with find themselves feeling stuck, exhausted, or constantly bracing for the next deadline. You might be a good fit for my practice if you recognize yourself in any of these experiences: The Anxiety Loop: Your mind won't shut off, you're constantly overthinking social interactions, or you feel a paralyzing pressure to be perfect. The Weight of Depression: You’re feeling drained, losing interest in things you used to enjoy, or finding it incredibly hard to just get out of bed and attend class. The ADHD Hurdle: You want to succeed, but staying organized, focusing on lectures, and overcoming procrastination feel like an uphill battle every single day. In our sessions, you don’t have to pretend you have it all together. There is no judgment here. Together, we will figure out what’s draining your energy and build practical, real-world strategies to help you manage stress, regain your focus, and actually enjoy your college experience. You don't have to carry this alone—let's take it one step at a time.

Hi there, I’m Sydney - I work with people who are looking to heal their relationship with food and find freedom from the mental obsession of a number on the scale, “right” foods, “being good”, bingeing, restricting, over-exercising, and chronic dieting. I believe that the path to feeling at peace with your body and the foods you eat is a unique experience.
