Let's be honest; it's HARD to find a culturally sensitive therapist who understands what it's like to navigate life as a person of color, especially in the state of Colorado. How do you explain your deep love and respect for certain aspects of your culture while at the same time, acknowledge your disdain for the harmful parts of it? How do you sort through the trauma of not having your emotional needs met as a child while still feeling grateful for your parents' best attempts at loving you? How do you process the desire to assimilate into the dominant culture while not wanting to fully abandon important elements of your identity? As a first-generation American born to ethnically Chinese immigrants from Southeast Asia, I understand the joys and frustrations that can come from navigating life between multiple cultures. It is from this lived experience that my passion for supporting others who find themselves in the in-between spaces of their various backgrounds and identities was born. I am especially passionate about supporting other adult children of immigrants, multicultural individuals, transracial adoptees, and BIPOC folks of all cultural backgrounds. I am also Theraplay-trained and offer play therapy to children, with a specific focus on adoptees and little ones who need extra support navigating their big emotions.

Self doubt, anxiety, or overwhelm can leave us lacking a sense of belonging, feeling behind where we "should" be, or feeling stuck. You’re not broken; You just haven’t been given the opportunity or skills to connect with your authentic self and develop the systems and self understanding that will allow you to succeed and feel more at ease with yourself. With approximately 20 years of experience, I bring authenticity, warmth, compassion, humor, and honesty into the therapy space. Together we'll work on building a stronger sense of self and work to build more stability and consistency for yourself.

My name is Ryan Welborn, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a degree from Naropa University. I specialize in working with individuals who struggle with emotional challenges, trauma, and difficulty in navigating personal growth. I help by utilizing an integrative approach that blends Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) with psychodynamic, transpersonal, and mindfulness-based techniques. Anxiety and depression are so prevalent these days. Coping with difficult transitions such as adjusting to college, being weighed down by existential/career pressures can feel so overwhelming. Romantic struggles are also stressful, including conflict with your beloved related to intimacy, infidelity, etc. Communication with your partner/family member can feel so frustrating at times. "Getting on the same page" with your partner prior to taking the next step would feel great. Coping with a loss can make you feel powerless. These are all really heavy life challenges that many of us face, but you don't have to face them alone. I am here to help. I work with individuals and couples by providing you with the tools you need for healthier relationships, better communication, and more fulfillment. I will help you sort through the various questions that impede love and joy in your life. I also offer Brainspotting, a revolutionary brain-body processing method that heals emotional wounds/traumas which may take longer to heal with traditional talk therapy alone. I look forward to offering you an opportunity for more healing!

We believe that everyone is inherently driven to heal and become the fullest version of themselves. By providing children, adolescents and young adults with support and unconditional acceptance, we allow them to become the leaders of their own healing journey. Play therapy for adults?! It may sound quirky, but the essential values of play therapy (connection, emotional expression, facing your challenges with unconditional support) lend themselves beautifully to anyone’s healing process, no matter your age. Young adulthood is a time of tremendous change and transition, but that doesn’t mean you have to sort through all of those challenges on your own. Therapeutic support can be immensely helpful as you really discover who you are, what you want, and how you want to be in the world. If you are interested in learning more about our services, for you or for your child, please feel free to reach out to us! We are happy to offer you a free 30-min consultation to answer any questions you may have.

I love helping college students navigate the challenges of this phase of life which can be both exciting and scary. I have been in practice for 25+ years and believe in helping young adults develop the best version of themselves. I have experience treating anxiety, depression, grief, self esteem issues, relationship challenges, and general life transitions. I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy, in addition to mindfulness practices. I also offer EMDR as a treatment modality when appropriate. My experience as a parent to a current college student and a recent grad has helped me appreciate the nuances of this phase of life from a different perspective. I am a solo practitioner in Wheat Ridge and am currently offering both in person and telehealth appointments. I accept Kaiser and Humana insurance in addition to private pay.
