I have been working with individuals, couples, families and groups for over 9 years as a teacher, case manager, skills trainer and counselor to help others learn to cope with these challenges and obstacles. I want to work with you to help you overcome struggles and live a tranquil life through learning new coping skills and having a safe place to explore both positive and negative life experiences. Hi, My name is Heather and I have been working as an individual and family therapist for over 10 years. Through my professional experiences, I have found a love for working with younger adult clients and currently work with many undergraduate and graduate college student. I enjoy my work in helping to identify what isn't working for clients in their individual lives or in their relationships and finding alternative ways of thinking and responding that support mental wellness. My experience is is mostly in the areas of symptoms commonly experienced by those struggling with ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD. I work mainly with cognitive models of therapy and am trained in EMDR, and have experience with other theories of psychology that I interweave into my practice, depending on what clients needs are and what they respond positively to. Ultimately I think the connection between therapist and client is the most important part of the therapeutic relationship and I truly enjoy getting to know my clients on a personal level through the clinical work we engage in. I'd appreciate your consideration in your searches for a therapist to work with.

Are you struggling with racing thoughts of worry and stress, feeling like you’re about to crawl out of your own skin? Stress in college can be difficult to manage at times because of the change in responsibilities of being away from home, less structure to routines, worrying about grades, worrying about finances, all while trying to establish new connections and build relationships in a new place. These stressors often lead to anxiety and depression. The good news is that you don’t have to manage alone! We can work together to help you learn the tools you need to maximize your strengths, and be at peace, while thriving in a busy college environment.

I love working with people who think they may have lost the plot. Who wonder if their symptoms may be a natural reaction to our society and our utter disconnection....from everything. I see you, and I get it. I think there is more to a life well-lived than mainstream notions of success. Come explore your life through values exploration and honest self-assessment, whether short or long-term. Welcoming and affirming for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC. I have an eclectic approach, which is a fancy way of saying that I don't rely on any one way of approaching curiosities. But my starting point is always from a place of your strengths, the things you are doing well, and your unique interests/wants/needs. I trend toward elements from Acceptance and Commitment, Positive Psychology, Existentialism, Brief Solution- Focused, Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation, Radical Acceptance, and Mindfulness. I am progressive in my politics, non-religious, and I believe that cursing is a valid form of self-expression. Humor is a big part of how I communicate and I believe it can get us through a lot of things. Despite being a middle-aged white woman who grew up in the south, you will find no bigoted mindset here. I will never pretend to understand the totality of your experience, but I do promise to see you, hear you, and respect you, while being mindful of the systemic, familial, and cultural issues that may be impacting you. I have stopped taking insurance because of all the barriers it creates from its medical model of viewing functionality and need. I know this creates a financial barrier for some, but I believe that until the system changes, its more of a detriment overall. But lets check those out-of-network benefits and see what we can squeeze out of the insurance company for you :)

Viktor Frankl said "When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves." I find building healthy client/therapist relationships very satisfying. I enjoy working with clients who are open to growth. I am the mother of 3 young adult daughters. I am active in my profession by serving on the Board of Directors as President for 2018-19 as well as 3 prior terms as Western District Chair, for The Licensed Professional Counselors Association of GA (LPCA-GA). I am Certified as a Clinical Supervisor by LPCA-GA. I work with all sorts of populations, but I particularly feel that my strengths lie in working with young adults, adults, women, teens, pre-teens, parenting issues, anxiety, substance abuse, trauma and anyone going through a challenging life transition or existential crisis. I am Certified as a Clinical Trauma Professional through IATP. More details available on my website. I love being a Psychotherapist because I have the honor of hearing my clients stories. Each day I learn something new from clients and I hope that they are learning from me as well. Every day I am amazed at the strength and courage my clients have shown in their lives and I am honored at being invited into those stories and asked for guidance and clarity. Visit my web site at: www.csosolutions.net where you will find more detailed information and an online scheduler for making appointments.
I have maintained an independent private practice since 1992. I am confident that you will find my "keep it simple" and goal directed approach fitting to your needs. You will know by the end of our first visit if we "connected". Establishing rapport is instrumental in moving forward and achieving your goals. In addition to providing outpatient counseling to young adults and adults I provide substance abuse and anger management assessments.
