Therapists for college students near Indianapolis, IN
Hi! I’m Christy. I’m the owner and a therapist at Journey to Joy Counseling. I believe that many people reach a point in their lives where they feel overwhelmed by life. This could be triggered by the loss of a job, a struggling marriage, family issues, or a personal battle. It can be hard to reach out for help. Sometimes it may feel easier just to withdraw or isolate, mask, or even ignore the problem. I’ve learned that while these attempts to cope may help temporarily, they don’t make the problems go away. The best thing we can do for ourselves is to seek help. People often ask me “How can counseling help?” I’ve learned from my own personal experience with therapy that counseling provides a safe space, a neutral party to bounce things off of, and a place to process things you may not realize you need to address. I believe that it is important to meet people where they are emotionally. No matter where you are on your journey, you need to be able to evaluate how you got to this point, and where you want to go from here. It’s important for me to understand the goals you have for your life and your personal growth. I want to offer you a neutral support system, a trusting and collaborative relationship, and my knowledge, experience, and training in order to help you have the best therapy experience.
I welcome diversity in my practice. A majority of my clients identify as being a part of a diverse or minority population. My clients tend to come to therapy looking to feel more comfortable with themselves, explore their identity, or to reduce the stress of everyday life.
I offer personalized support using evidence-based methods to guide you through your mental health journey. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, navigating family conflicts, or feeling overwhelmed by academic pressures, I'm here to provide the comfort and guidance you need to thrive. Together, we'll explore strategies tailored to your unique needs, helping you find clarity, resilience, and peace of mind.
Do you find yourself struggling with negative beliefs or finding it difficult to let go of past experiences? I specialize in helping college students navigate the unique challenges and transitions that come with academic life. Whether you're dealing with stress from classes, anxiety about the future, relationship issues, or personal struggles, I provide a safe and supportive space to explore your thoughts and feelings. College is an exciting time, but it can also be overwhelming. The pressure to succeed academically, socially, and personally can take a toll on your mental health. I’m here to help you develop coping strategies, manage stress, and gain clarity on what’s most important to you. I am trained in EMDR, DBT, and CBT. I like to use somatic interventions to help clients reprocess traumatic memories, explore their inner emotional landscape and work through beliefs that can become stuck points in traditional talk therapy. You can expect to gain a deeper understanding of your emotions and the parts that make up your personality, relief from symptoms, and increased emotional resilience.
Are you struggling with finding your purpose? Having a hard time communicating with your partner? Do memories of your past keep you from living the life you want? You aren't alone! Deciding to acknowledge your struggle and make the call to seek help takes courage. This decision is one that will bring you another step closer to the healing you so desperately desire. I would love the opportunity to be a part of your journey toward the goals you have and clarifying values that guide you. I can't wait to meet you!
