Therapists for college students near Northeastern University
I specialize in anxiety, depression, body image issues, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder & college adjustment/ academic stress. My therapeutic approach is practical and flexible, grounded in psychodynamic psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and exposure therapy. I find that people often assume that they “should” know how to approach therapy. In reality, the process may not be quite so simple and may feel confusing. Thus, I frequently have conversations with my clients about how to use sessions and ongoing dialogues about our work together.
I'm Julia, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I have worked in the mental health field for the past 23 years in a variety of roles. I have extensive experience in working with college students who struggle with managing feelings of anxiety, depression, and stress and also specialize working with those in the LGBTQIA+ community.

Anxiety, family issues and challenging experiences make it difficult to function. You may be finding it hard to deal with your emotions or to have connected, secure relationships. You may even be so overwhelmed that you're not as committed to your goals as you'd like to be. Sometimes it can be really hard to talk about what's bothering you because you feel judgement or shame. Without support, day-to-day life can feel endlessly tiring. I'm a warm, caring therapist ready to sit with you through your pain and with your joy. Some of my identities include being Black, Lesbian and of kinship care origin. My virtual couch invites all races, ethnicities, religions, sizes, sexual orientations and genders. I'm ready for you.
Are you feeling pressure to perform in the classroom, on the field/court/rink, in the studio/on stage, or any other extracurricular? Are you struggling to figure out what direction to go in academically or professionally? Are you feeling tied down from your past or worried about the impending future? Are you dealing with current, here-and-now distress? These stressors and uncertainties can be overwhelming and therapy is the right place to explore them, cultivate insight around them, and develop ways to overcome. Therapy is a tool to support you in accepting the things you can't change and building capacity to effectively change the things that you can- it's a balancing act. Life is too short to spend our time suffering unnecessarily or spinning our wheels trying to effect change. If you are reading this, you are probably already responding to a felt need for support- this is a good thing! Now it's time to do one of the hardest parts- get started. My approach is client-centered, collaborative, goal-directed, and guided by on-going feedback. I balance compassionate, non-judgmental support with encouragement to take thoughtful, measured risks- helping clients build confidence in their capacity to tolerate, move through, heal, and grow from life’s challenges. If you feel that now is the time, I'd love to hear from you and I'd be happy to set up a consultation call to figure out if we'd be a good fit. Please reach out!

If you are hurting and looking for someone to trust your inner thoughts and feelings with, i am your person. Thanks for the interest, Lionda
I believe that relationships determine a lot about how we interact with the world - in both helpful and less helpful ways. Our behaviors, attitudes, thoughts, feelings, and relationship styles are reinforced over time by our experiences, families, partners, environments, and culture. Psychotherapy can help when stress, trauma, life transitions, or difficult relationships call for new ways of coping and navigating our lives. My approach integrates evidence-based practices shown to be effective including, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Family Systems, Attachment Theory, and an Interpersonal Process approach, to provide highly individualized psychotherapy services to my clients. Together, we will work to define your treatment goals and to create new patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating to others and the world around you. This collaborative process will help you feel more connected to your values and to engage more fully in your life.

My name is Liz LaRose and I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with a decade of experience in the field of mental health. I am passionate about helping people through the difficult times to help them grow and bloom. For the past 8 decade, I have had a strong focus on supporting people through life's transitions. I am a social worker focused primarily on helping those with a wide variety of mental health concerns. With a background in therapeutic communities, I believe it is essential to protect the dignity and humanity of a patient no matter the extent of their suffering. My work is guided by psychoanalysis and phenomenology, which allow me to collaboratively explore the meaning of one's difficulties with a patient in the context of their life to alleviate rather than manage symptoms. I pride myself on work with clients who are apprehensive about therapy, have stalled in therapy in the past, are skeptical of modern paradigms of mental health, have had unusual experiences or have unusual spiritual beliefs, have been called too smart for their own good or have otherwise been made to feel difficult.
I am a licensed psychotherapist utilizing holistic, creative modalities to provide healing that is effective for children, adolescents and adults. I utilize two main modalities in my practice: Expressive Arts Therapy and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). Through these modalities, I empower people who are having difficulty with depression and anxiety due to transitions, low self-esteem, stress, chronic pain, relationship issues, work/school obligations, trauma and grief. Expressive Arts Therapy is an effective way to process difficult emotions by making meaning through the exploration of our creative works. EFT is part of a holistic mind-body movement that works by finding the negative charges in our bodies while simultaneously sending calming signals to decrease our physical and emotional responses. My clients describe me as relatable, comforting, and validating. With compassion and acceptance, I welcome you to join me just as you are.
Hi there! Currently I'm providing telehealth via a secure, user-friendly and HIPAA compliant telehealth platform. I see many clients who struggle with anxiety and stress-management, relationship concerns, life-stage stressors, and self-worth/self-esteem issues. College is often described as "some of the best years of your life" ....by well-intentioned people who likely have not experienced life as a college student in the 21st century. Many of my college-aged clients come to therapy seeking guidance once the juggling act of friends, dating, family, homework, classes, labs, group projects, extracurricular obligations, etc...starts to become overwhelming, and "me-time" a distant memory. While therapy itself certainly can't remove anything from your plate, it can help you to reconfigure and re-prioritize your life in a way that can bring greater peace of mind, and restore a sense of balance. Feel free to reach out and we'll see if this can be a good fit for your needs! Melissa

Alex utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach using skills obtained from a plethora of working environments. While primarily utilizing a strength based, person-centered approach, Alex is also proficient in the teachings of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Systems therapy, among other modalities. As a trauma-informed therapist, I strive to create a safe and supportive space where students feel heard and understood. I believe healing and growth happen through trust, empathy, and collaboration. I work with students navigating stress, anxiety, trauma, and life transitions, helping them build on their strengths and develop skills to support their well-being. My approach is compassionate and tailored to each individual’s needs. Using evidence-based practices such as EMDR, CBT, and DBT, I support students in building resilience, improving emotional regulation, and creating meaningful, lasting change.
Life can be incredibly stressful and lonely, at times, especially during the college years. I believe in the ability of therapy to help people heal and change. Often, this process starts when we feel at our lowest—lost and overwhelmed. An experienced therapist, I provide a warm, compassionate space to talk about the things that matter to you, explore what might be holding you back, and create a plan together to make the changes you desire. People say I put them at ease and quickly bring a new perspective to the way they have been thinking about a problem. I have a holistic, individualized approach—weaving together therapeutic interventions tailored to your unique needs. It would be an honor to help you navigate a difficult challenge or circumstance.
I offer flexible scheduling for those who need it - we can meet weekly, bi-weekly, or 'grab & go' style where you pick up an appointment as needed. I practice 'relational, client-centered' therapy where you are the leader in the work we do together. I value the client-therapist relationship & show up as a whole person therapist - if I cannot provide competent care & support for your therapeutic needs, I will work with you to find you the therapist you deserve. I primarily see individuals experiencing life overwhelm, chronic illness, perinatal or postpartum concerns, identity exploration, & those in (or interested in) the medical, human services, or first responder fields.
For over 25 years I have worked as a social worker, life coach and therapist with children, adolescents and adults. Since I was a child I knew that I wanted to be a counselor helping others in their time of need. At some point in life's journey you may experience a time where you feel you may benefit from some extra support and guidance, let me help you on the road to hope and healing. I believe in a mutual therapeutic relationship working together as a team towards the client's goals. Starting therapy and sharing issues that have become challenging is a hard and yet courageous step in your healing process. As a therapist I am honored to be able to share in this journey and hold the emotions that come with this. I consider myself to be an eclectic therapist, taking into consideration the individuals uniqueness and needs before implementing techniques and strategies. I use an honest and direct approach in a non-judgemental and compassionate way. With the help of different modalities CBT, Mindfulness, Solution Focused and EMDR I can help you find a path toward inner peace and joy.
