Dr. Hu is a Duke-trained adult and child psychiatrist with expertise in anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). She worked in prestigious institutions, including McLean Hospital OCD institute, Tufts Medical Center ECT (electro-convulsive therapy) program, and anxiety clinic at Boston University. before joining Harvard Counseling and Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in 2021. We focus on evidence-based treatment, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). In contrary to talk therapy, CBT is time-limited, goal-orientated, client-focused, and skill-based. She provides useful tools and coping skills to manage stress and anxiety for better performance and incorporate dialectal behavioral therapy (DBT) and acceptance committed therapy (ACT) in her approach.

Hello! I'm glad you're here! Are you feeling stressed and overwhelmed with school and life? Having a hard time finding balance in your life? I specialize in working with people dealing with many of the manifestations of anxiety. I focus my clinical work on people who are LGBTQIA, creatives; college students, people who are dealing with chronic health issues; and people in larger bodies through a fat liberation and HAES (Health At Every Size) lens; I strive to be an anti racist provider and I work hard to be transparent, learning from those who are not my clients, and highly accountable.
I provide individual therapy in a confidential setting, and listen carefully to your concerns without judgement. In therapy, we will collaborate to help you better understand your patterns, and build skills and resilience for navigating the college experience with more ease and confidence. As you explore options for therapy, you are welcome to reach out with any questions, and/or to schedule an initial consultation. I would be happy to talk with you and see if my practice is a fit for your needs.
We are a small private practice offering therapy and medication management for a wide range of behavioral health concerns. We utilize evidenced-based treatment and a holistic approach to wellness. Services are provided both in person and virtually.
I offer expertise in long-term individual therapy, meeting with most of my patients weekly or more. I enjoy working with difficult issues including depression, anxiety, and trauma. These issues often have many manifestations like panic, procrastination and avoidance, low energy, low confidence, eating and sleep disturbances to name only a few. I work hard to offer a space where we can listen very carefully to what is contributing to these problems. My belief is that our problems point to something more than disorder and dysfunction; they point to something that is profoundly unique in each of us. I look forward to hearing from you to talk about how I can help.
Off-Campus Clinicians is a group of highly trained doctoral-level psychologists who work closely with college and graduate students across Massachusetts (in-person sessions available in Cambridge, Watertown) and NYS (Telehealth only). We love our work, and we love working with students. We believe that real progress starts with an honest, trusting relationship, a space where you can speak openly, think out loud, and feel understood without being judged. Students often tell us they value our reliability and consistency. We show up, we stay engaged, and we bring a lot of experience working with young adults navigating the pressure, uncertainty, and growth that come with this stage of life - academically, emotionally, and relationally. We tend to work especially well with students who are thoughtful about themselves and curious about their own minds, people who want more than quick advice and are motivated to understand both what’s going on beneath the surface and how to take the needed accountability that helps life go in better, more desirable directions. If you’re looking for serious, supportive conversation with someone trained to help you make sense of your experience, please contact us.

I graduated from UMass Medical school and was trained in adult psychiatry at Cambridge Health Alliance, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. Prior to going to medical school I received a Masters in Teaching from Boston University and worked as a teacher. This unique background affects my approach to psychiatry. I believe that a good psychiatrist should work with you to help you learn about yourself and your mental health. I am trained in a variety of therapeutic styles including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), psychodynamic therapy, supportive therapy, and Gottman style couples/relationship therapy. During my time at CHA I worked extensively with the Gender and Sexuality Clinic to serve patients of diverse sexual and gender identities. I also co-lead a group therapy for individuals in polyamorous and non-monogamous relationships. I have taught at the American Psychiatric Association’s specialized rotation for HIV Psychiatry, including lectures on how to provide effective telepsychiatry, and I have presented at a national meeting on teaching providers how to better work with patients to prescribe medications. I am a licensed physician in Massachusetts, New York, and California. I offer in person appointments in Somerville, MA as well as secure telehealth appointments to those residing in Massachusetts, New York, and California. In addition to medication management I offer individual and relationship/couples therapy.
Often, a significant source of suffering lies in thoughts and feelings that exist outside of our awareness and have not yet been able to find full expression. Psychotherapy offers the unusual opportunity to be listened to deeply and to learn to listen to ourselves in new ways. Exploring and developing insight into your inner life can lead to change—feeling better about yourself, shifting seemingly intractable patterns that have kept you stuck, and developing a greater sense of agency and fulfillment in your life. My practice provides a safe setting in which this exploration can unfold. I'll work collaboratively with you to help you make sense of distressing feelings and thoughts, gain insight into your experiences, and develop a more authentic relationship to yourself and to the world. I have advanced training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, and my work is influenced by psychoanalytic and trauma-informed approaches. I see adults and specialize in a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, complex trauma, and relationship difficulties. I believe in using a strength-based approach in working with adolescents, and adults. I have experience working with individuals and families. I will work collaboratively with you to set goals to help achieve a better lifestyle and improve mental health symptoms. I have experience working with a variety of different presenting problems such as depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, women's issues, life transitions, family stressors, loss and grief. Treatment modalities I use are derived from a relational approach, in conjunction with cognitive behavioral, solution focused, strength based, and psychodynamic. The therapeutic relationship is very important to me therefor; I like to build a satisfactory relationship with you to help develop a safe and trusting environment.
As a therapist, I aim to be as authentic, supportive, and direct as possible; helping you to work on the obstacles standing in the way of reaching your goals. Sometimes this simply means experiencing an accepting and validating environment otherwise unavailable. Alternatively, this may consist of having an emotionally safe space to communicate with your partner or family. My approach depends on your goals for our work together and what degree of challenge you feel ready for. Conflict or connection, I am here to support you. Feedback I've received from clients typically includes comments along the lines of, "You aren't the type of therapist who just sits back and listens for an hour, but who gets me to consider things I hadn't thought of, helped me to figure myself out- what I really want, need, and how to deal". I truly enjoy helping my clients to gain a better understanding of themselves, identifying and building their strengths, and supporting them through difficult times. You may perceive an upsetting event as a minute issue or a monstrous crisis based on how others view it. My perspective however, rests on the impact and significance an experience holds for you. Life is challenging, especially when you are attempting to juggle school, work, relationships and unexpected life events. Reach out. A simple talk will help you determine if I can be of support.
