My clients describe me as warm, empathetic, intuitive and easy to talk to. I believe therapy is a unique experience and I work with you to tailor the treatment to your individual needs. I utilize techniques ranging from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), reiki and talk therapy. Prior to becoming a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), I worked in NYC public schools as a School Counselor for about 10 years. I have extensive knowledge in dealing with all types of school issues and working with families. I specialized in college transition and managing college as a first-generation college student. I look forward to meeting you!

Our group is somewhat unique in that we are experiential therapists. This means that in addition to addressing emotions, beliefs, and thoughts, we also incorporate the body, brain and nervous system into our therapy. We help people learn somatic techniques for settling anxiety and building more regulation. We are all trauma-trained, gentle, and nonjudgmental therapists who value the client-therapist relationship and can provide support for navigating early adulthood, independence/dependence, relationships, and adjustment to college.

MANY OF US GO THROUGH LIFE as are our own harshest critics. We speak to ourselves in ways we wouldn't dare speak to a friend or loved one. Together, you and I can uncover the negative thoughts and beliefs you may hold and work to replace them with kinder, more empowering truths. You deserve to be your own biggest cheerleader, and I'll be right there behind you. OR, PERHAPS YOU'RE STRUGGLING to accept a difficult change or loss. I am here to say that you are not alone, and that hope for a positive, fulfilling future exists. While it may temporarily feel easier to avoid the grief that comes with such change and loss, I am here to sit with you in your toughest emotions. As we practice weathering the storm rather than fighting against it or running from it, we can help you adapt to your new reality, find meaning, and reconnect with your purpose and well-being. MY APPROACH IS COLLABORATIVE, client-centered, and strengths-based. I believe that a trusting therapeutic relationship serves as the foundation for all of the work that we will do together. Therefore, the process of building that trust and learning about your unique experiences, needs, and strengths is pivotal. As we personalize your therapy journey, it is my goal for your authentic self to feel affirmed and uplifted.

Therapy can offer a path to personal freedom. I want to know who you are, how you are, and how you want to be. My basic training is psychoanalytic, but an overall integrative approach fosters understanding of how life has shaped you, and how it plays out in current living situations, and especially how one's strengths can be brought to good use. I know that a person can change, evolve, develop meaningful relationships, first and foremost with themselves. I work collaboratively with individuals and couples to find the way to emotional liberation - always a deeply personal course. I welcome clients to my home-office in New York (Upper West Side) or via video conference.

Past experiences may be affecting how you see yourself, relate to others, or move through the world. Healing is possible. Many come to therapy feeling weighed down by trauma, difficult relationships, low self-esteem, or unresolved childhood experiences. You may be functioning on the outside while feeling stuck, disconnected, or unsure of yourself on the inside. Many of the adults I work with struggle with trusting themselves or others, setting boundaries, or feeling worthy of care and connection. Therapy can help you build insight, strengthen your sense of self, and develop healthier, more fulfilling relationships. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who works with people seeking deeper understanding, healing, and meaningful change. My approach is warm, exploratory, and open, with an emphasis on creating a space where you feel safe enough to be honest and work at your own pace. My style is collaborative and nonjudgmental, grounded in respect. Beginning therapy takes courage. If you’re ready to explore your experiences in a supportive and compassionate environment, I invite you to reach out.

I have worked with people experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including trauma, eating disorders, OCD, relationship struggles, and academic stress. I am attuned to the role oppression plays in my patients' lives and am LGBTQIA+ affirming. I enjoy working with students, artists and people with creative practices, those undergoing life transitions, and people seeking to understand intergenerational sources of suffering. My style is warm and nonjudgmental. I am guided by the belief that each person contains inherent strengths and knowledge, and that a primary goal of treatment is to allow for the expression of this unique experience. In our work together, we will move between past and present to understand what it’s like to be you. We will look carefully at your struggles, as well as how you love and dream. This diligent attention to your experience can result in satisfying and often surprising changes in personal, creative, and professional endeavors. In time, this knowledge of the self may also reduce symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and physical pain. I am a New York State licensed master social worker and graduated with honors from Silberman School of Social Work. I am a candidate in adult psychoanalysis at the Contemporary Freudian Society. I have also been trained in the treatment of eating disorders. I have worked with people of diverse racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexuality, and class backgrounds. I invite you to reach out to me.

Psychotherapy is a co-created experience between the therapist and client. For over 20 years I have had the honor of working with people who feel stuck in their lives, whether it be their jobs, their relationships, or perhaps in some part of their identity. By bringing non-judgmental curiosity to our work together, it is my goal to create a safe and welcoming space within which we can explore the patterns of behavior that may not be serving their purpose anymore. I enjoy working with teens and adults, providing them with support to be their most authentic selves. My experience as a middle school counselor afforded me the opportunity to work with children and their families during an often very tumultuous time. It is there that I developed an interest in gender and sexuality development and I have worked with many families whose child has undergone a social transition regarding their gender identity. I consult with schools on how best to support children socially transitioning, and give workshops to teachers & professionals on how to create more inclusive classrooms. I also have extensive experience working with children with learning disabilities. In addition to my work as a clinical social worker, I am a sexuality educator and am pursuing a PhD.

As a mental health counselor with 4 years of experience, I help college-aged and older adults navigate feelings of overwhelm, disconnectedness, and confusion in their lives, supporting them through life transitions, family stress, trauma, academic and career pressures, identity exploration, daily stressors, and interpersonal relationship issues. My style is eclectic and guiding, as I believe in authenticity that allows me to be direct, honest, and inviting. I look forward to helping empower you to achieve your goals in our work together. *Appointments are available for patients who can communicate in both English and Russian and/or who culturally would feel more comfortable with someone who is Russian speaking. I'm passionate about how therapy can be a transformative process that empowers you to better understand yourself and live with greater clarity, balance, and fulfillment. My approach is humanistic and holistic, a style that ensures a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental environment tailored to your unique experiences and goals. Treatment includes integrative psychodynamic therapy, Dialectal Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and relational evidence-based interventions to help you process and explore beliefs about the world and yourself. My path to becoming a therapist started at St. Francis's College Counseling Center, where I worked as a student counselor. This experience taught me the value of providing empathetic and strength-based care for emerging and older adults alike. Now, I remain committed to bringing a grounding and calming presence to each session, along with a deep respect for every person’s unique lived experience. In my free time I often enjoy calming activities that keep me grounded. These include going for long walks, reading, thrifting, visiting museums, and junk journaling.

Are you struggling to feel understood in therapy? Are you having trouble within your relationships and feeling like you have no idea what to do? Are you interested in exploring who you are and what is happening inside you? Do you want to engage with more coping skills? Then I might be the therapist for you. I work best with clients or couples who are under the queer, trans, and BIPOC umbrellas. I also specialize in working with sex workers, avoidance/ dissociation patterns, identity/gender/sexuality exploration, sex/intimacy, communication, confidence/ self-esteem, boundaries, non-monogamy, and shame/guilt. Your input and experiences are paramount in our work together. In therapy, I will draw upon a variety of modalities such as narrative therapy, CBT, somatic work, creative arts therapies, and parts work to help us get closer to your ideals and goals. As a trans-femme, queer, bigger-bodied, white-latine, southerner I know how difficult and sometimes dangerous vulnerability can be. I know this as a human being, as a counselor, and as a person in a position of power. Your vulnerability will be honored and cared for with me as well as all of the intersections of power, privilege, and identity that you share.

Finding the right therapist matters — and here's what sets my approach apart. I combine psychodynamic therapy, CBT, mindfulness, and self-compassion into a practical, personalized framework refined over more than 10 years of clinical experience working with high-achievers. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach; you are the expert on your own life. I understand firsthand the pressure to perform, the fear of falling short, and the burnout that comes from relentlessly pushing yourself. I'm not just familiar with those experiences clinically; I've lived them. My clients tell me they appreciate that I'm direct, warm, and genuinely collaborative — that sessions feel both supportive and productive. All sessions are available online, so getting consistent support fits into even the most demanding schedule. If you're ready to stop white-knuckling your way through and start building something that actually feels sustainable, I'd love to connect. Schedule a free 20-minute consultation at susanpodbielski.com — no pressure, just a conversation.

I GREW UP IN THE IN-BETWEEN — moving back and forth between the US and China, I know first-hand what it is like to be faced with the unknown, the struggle of finding yourself in a new place, a new culture, a new stage of life, or a new identity. I FIND JOY in helping people find the pieces of themselves they can rely on and fall in love with through it all. My goal is to honor the beauty of your existence while teaching you the skills that can carry you through rougher times. The process of healing, learning who you are and what you need to care for yourself, is a challenging but rewarding one. IT TAKES COURAGE to confront and accept yourself completely, and I hope to provide a compassionate and safe space for you to explore, to grieve, to rage, or to find joy in everything that you've experienced. The fact that you have survived everything so far to be here now is more important than anything else. It is an honor for me to witness your courage and your strength. IT IS A PRIVILEGE to be a part of your journey. I admire you. You matter to me.

Times of transition are exciting and challenging. Starting something new, moving through inflection points in your education and career, preparing for completion and uncertainty while you figure out what's next, are all important processes everyone hopes will go smoothly - but sometimes they can feel rocky. Even good changes or subtle shifts can feel unsettling, especially for highly sensitive people. If social, academic or emotional / mental health issues are stressing you and making it hard to feel confident and supported in working towards your goals, therapy can be a great tool to help increase understanding about "how it all works" and get support in developing patience and progress towards deepening clarity and commitment to your goals. Anxieties, insecurity, depression, difficult patterns in relationships or work, and problems focusing can be understood and changed, so you have more energy and confidence to devote to living. Become more connected to yourself and others through a specialized process of exploration with a trained professional, and see a difference in your life. A therapist’s expertise and experience are very important, but the *key* ingredient of effective therapy is a “good fit” between you and your therapist. If you’d like to meet and see how it would be to work together, I would be pleased to hear from you. Beginning work as a psychotherapist in clinic settings in 1995, I opened my private practice in 2002. I received my Master’s Degree in Social Work from New York University, am a New York City based Licensed Clinical Social Worker (licensed in New York and New Jersey), and earned a certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the NYFS Institute.
