It takes courage to reach out for help. Sometimes, the tools and supports we have aren’t enough to navigate big transitions and changes in our lives, or to make the changes we long for. In those moments, therapy can help us understand what’s holding us back and develop a plan that will help reduce our suffering and increase well-being. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and goal-oriented. I am passionate about partnering with young adults and families in the journey toward healing and believe strongly in providing identity-affirming, culturally responsive care at all stages of the therapeutic process. I specialize in evidence-based treatment for a variety of mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, traumatic stress, OCD, borderline personality disorder, and ADHD. I also work with individuals who struggle with self-harming behaviors, addiction, and suicidal thoughts and/or behaviors. If you are looking for support and not sure where to turn to next, feel free to reach out for a free 15-minute consultation.
The therapists at Groundwork Therapy practice primarily from a contemporary psychodynamic perspective. From this foundation, we integrate cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, solution-focused, and mindfulness techniques depending on each client’s individual needs. We believe that the primary goal of psychotherapy is to develop a deeper understanding of oneself, including greater awareness of compulsive, automatic or problematic patterns of behavior and how one relates to others. We believe that it is through increased self-awareness and self-understanding that individuals gain the freedom to make changes that will allow them to experience more fulfilling lives. We at Groundwork Therapy strive to create a culture of mutual curiosity about our clients’ thoughts, beliefs, feelings, behaviors, and past experiences. We believe that this therapeutic process helps individuals become more aware of those “blind spots” that keep them stuck in dysfunctional and/or unfulfilling relationships, jobs, and living situations. Additionally, we encourage patients to use the therapeutic relationship as a laboratory to safely “experiment” with new ways of communicating and interacting. In addition to guiding self-discovery, the therapists at Groundwork Therapy also foster development of effective skills and tools to better manage and navigate the stress and challenges of life. The therapists at Groundwork Therapy have extensive education, training and clinical experience in gender and sexual diversity. We utilize an affirmative approach to psychotherapy, including using only those labels and pronouns with which our clients identify. While you may identify as trans, queer, gay, sexually fluid, poly, asexual, or simply in love with someone of the same gender, we also recognize that these identities and relationships may have nothing to do with your reasons for seeking therapy. Your sexuality, gender identity, and relationships are only the focus for therapy if you want them to be so.
We offer affirming psychotherapy and sex therapy for individuals, couples, multiple-partner relationships, and poly and leather families. We are experts in alternative sexualities, specializing in working with adults in the kink/BDSM, polyamorous/non-monogamous, trans/gender-nonconforming/non-binary, LGBQIA+, and sex work communities. We work with those who live openly and out; and those who have more conservative and private lifestyles. We use a variety of therapeutic approaches, including holistic, person-centered, collaborative, empowerment-focused, trauma-informed, IFS, DBT, and EMDR. We welcome people of every ability, age, gender, national origin, race/ethnicity, religious affiliation, and sexual orientation, and we cultivate space for conversations that de/reconstruct whiteness, and cultivate positive racial and intersectional identities. People seek therapy for many reasons, including: a deeper understanding of identity or sexuality; difficulty adjusting to relationship difficulties or traumatic experiences; anxiety and/or depression; sexual functioning issues; compulsive thoughts or behavior; and/or changes in relationship structure or power dynamic. Most people decide to work with my practice because of my specialized training and experience, or because they feel more comfortable speaking to a therapist with first-hand knowledge of alternative identities and lifestyles.

We’re here to help you push those walls back up and construct a life that feels aligned with the one you have always envisioned for yourself. Manhattan Wellness isn’t your typical clinical practice, and that’s intentional. You may have considered therapy in the past but felt like the entire process was too cold, too clinical or too buttoned up. We’re here to change that for you. Our therapists are authentic (and human- just like you) and have an approach that makes you feel like you’re talking to a friend over coffee- not someone who is analyzing you with a pen and paper in hand. Our clients know that they are the experts of their own experience Every human experience is unique, which means therapy for moving through those experiences should be too. MW doesn’t believe in one-size-fits-all treatment. Instead, we offer our unique combination of client-tailored techniques and empathy-first approach. This cultivates a safe and supportive environment where you feel comfortable and inspired to make powerful strides towards living your best life both now and later. Just like how your hairstylist knows exactly how you like your blowout, your therapist will get to know you on a personal level and create a tailored therapy plan that works for you because it was made for you. Manhattan Wellness is a boutique psychotherapy practice that just gets it. Sessions feel like you’re talking to a trusted friend, not a therapist, and you have the opportunity to share what’s on your mind without judgment. We offer both in person and virtual therapy sessions that help you work through obstacles so you can live your best life both now and in the future. Our providers lead with empathy and understanding so you truly feel heard and validated. Therapy should never feel like a “one size fits all” solution.
