College is supposed to be one of the best times of your life, so why does it sometimes feel like the hardest? Maybe you're juggling more than you ever have before - classes, deadlines, relationships, and the pressure to perform academically while somehow also figuring out who you are and where you belong. Maybe the adjustment to college life has been harder than you expected - the homesickness, the new environment, the feeling that everyone else seems to be thriving while you're just trying to keep your head above water. Maybe anxiety has become your constant companion, or stress has made it hard to enjoy the things you used to love. Maybe you're asking bigger questions too - who am I, really? What do I actually want? Where am I headed? - and the pressure to have it all figured out feels overwhelming. Or maybe nothing dramatic has happened, and that almost makes it harder to explain. You just know something feels off, and you're not quite sure where to turn. Here's what I want you to know: you don't have to have it all together to reach out. You don't need a crisis to deserve support. College is one of the most profound transitions of your life - a time of incredible growth, but also real uncertainty, loneliness, and pressure that often goes unseen. I offer warm, collaborative, judgment-free therapy for college students navigating exactly this. Together we can work through anxiety and stress, explore who you are and who you want to become, and help you find your footing - so you can actually show up for your life, not just get through it. You deserve a space that's entirely yours - and finding the right therapist should feel like a good fit, not another stressor. That's why I offer a free 15-minute consultation - no pressure, no commitment - just a chance to chat, ask questions, and see if this feels right for you. Think of it as a low-stakes first step toward feeling more like yourself again. I'd be honored to be that space. Please reach out anytime. I'm here whenever you're ready.

I know that it isn’t always easy deciding to see a therapist, but I’m glad you made it to my page. I’m a licensed clinical social worker specializing in the treatment of depression, anxiety, and trauma. Whether you’re dealing with acute symptoms or long-standing issues, I am here to provide a safe, empathetic, and effective therapeutic environment. I view the therapeutic relationship as a shared experience, and my goals are to help you meet your goals. My approach integrates a variety of therapeutic techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Humanistic Therapy, Problem-Solving Therapy, and various trauma-focused interventions. This multifaceted approach allows me to tailor my strategies to best meet your needs and support you. I graduated from Columbia Univ. School of Social Work, and I am currently serving as a program coordinator at a leading NY metropolitan area medical center. I am well published in peer-reviewed academic journals, and this allows me to stay at the forefront of the latest developments in psychology to ensure that our sessions are informed by best practices.
I welcome you, all of you - the good, the bad, and the ugly. I welcome the part of you that wants to scream and perhaps doesn’t know how to. I welcome the part of you that is screaming and not being heard. I welcome the part of you that constantly criticizes you – whose voice is that? I welcome the many versions of you as a child – carefree? careful? I welcome the parts of you that are shining and the parts of you that are hiding. I welcome the parts of you that feel uncontrollable and the parts of you that you keep in order. I welcome the parts you want to get rid of and the parts you cling onto. Our work together is about inviting all your inner selves to the table and hearing them out – how is each part, some seemingly “bad,” trying to help you?
Therapy can deepen your capacity for love, trust, and connection — with yourself and with others. I’ve seen it ease depression, anxiety, and shame; strengthen self-esteem; and help people become more resilient during life’s ups and downs. Most of all, it can bring forward a truer, more authentic self. Therapy is a collaborative process. You speak, and I listen closely — for what’s said and what lies beneath the surface — helping you see what may be getting in the way of a more fulfilling life. As Carl Rogers wrote: “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” I’ve found that to be true. Patients find it helpful to explore childhood, memories that bubble up, dreams, feelings, fears, wishes — whatever arises. Our aim is an understanding of your inner world that leads to meaningful action & choice. With couples, I help you listen more clearly & break entrenched patterns. Everyone longs to be seen and heard & I'll help you arrive at that place. As a therapist and writer, I’m inspired to help each patient take hold of their narrative — understanding where they’ve come from & where they’d like to go. As we get to know one another, I tailor my style to your personality and needs. Your feedback is always encouraged. Email me to schedule a consultation & see if we’re a good fit. My work embraces creativity as a pathway to healing, growth, and resilience across the lifespan. I specialize in family work, couples therapy, and challenges for emerging adults.
I work with students who need more or different support than they are able to access on-campus. You may be looking for long-term therapy or for a therapist who specializes in working with people like you. I am trained in several types of therapy (ACT, DBT, relational, multicultural-feminist) and apply them flexibly based on what you need. Students who work with me are often looking for longer-term therapy, where we address deeper issues in a safe relationship, at your own pace. Others are seeking individual therapy that makes room for activism and the big problems of our time. We may be a good fit for therapy together if you are coping with a difficult family, relationship trouble, recurrent mental health problems (e.g. BPD, PTSD, MDD, GAD), or a life transition (e.g. grief, divorce, pregnancy, moving, spiritual/religious crisis). I also have particular experience working with medical students. Finally, I am a climate-aware and social justice-focused therapist; this means your experience with collective problems like white supremacy and the climate crisis is a welcome, respected, and important part of therapy. I don't take insurance, but I offer sliding scale fees based on financial need. Please reach out to me for a 15-minute phone call to see what might be possible in our work together!
Hi everyone! I’m Maria, a therapist in private practice specializing in anxiety disorders, relational trauma, substance use exploration, and relationship distress. My approach focuses on fostering self-awareness, healing relational wounds, and building connections that support growth and resilience. I'm passionate about helping clients navigate life’s complexities and find balance and fulfillment.

Are you overwhelmed with feeling anxious or sad? Having trouble adjusting to recent changes in your life? You’re in the right place. I help college students and young adults dealing with anxiety, depression and life changes to feel more at peace, less worried, and more confident. Your experiences and story matter and I am here to listen. My job is to help you to help yourself. I will help you to explore your own strengths and struggles in a safe, nonjudgmental space. My goal is to be transparent, supportive, and informative while being culturally sensitive and LGBTIA+ affirming. I hold sessions Monday-Thursday, 9am-5pm. During the first several sessions, I will help you to identify your goals while reflecting on your personal strengths that have helped you to get you to today. I want you to remember that you have survived every day before this one and that you are resilient. We work towards your goals with a speed that is comfortable for you, checking in on your progress throughout. I incorporate aspects of mindfulness to help you to cope and to heal while providing psychoeducation to help you to better understand your emotions and to gain insight into your experiences. I often give ‘homework’ to help to build new coping skills and to improve communication styles. Everything we will work on will be together, so I will always be transparent and you will always have a voice.

I have been a therapist for more than 30 years. I am compassionate, empathetic and supportive. I don't adhere to one particular therapeutic type, since one size doesn't fit all. I tend to be down-to-earth, and can offer practical advice, and when called for, a sense of humor.
At Holistic Psychotherapy NYC, we believe therapy should be a collaborative, meaningful, and deeply human experience. Our diverse team of therapists provides compassionate, evidence-informed care grounded in relational, psychodynamic, attachment-based, and holistic approaches. We work with college students, young adults, professionals, and individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, identity exploration, life transitions, and academic or career stress. We understand that seeking support can feel vulnerable, especially during times of change. Whether you're adjusting to campus life, managing family expectations, coping with burnout, exploring aspects of your identity, or working through past experiences that continue to affect your present, our therapists strive to create a space where you feel understood, respected, and empowered. Our practice values authenticity, cultural humility, and inclusivity. We welcome individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences, including LGBTQIA+ individuals, first-generation students, immigrants, and those navigating complex family, cultural, or societal dynamics. We offer both in-person sessions in Midtown Manhattan near Grand Central and telehealth appointments throughout New York. We are in-network with Aetna and Cigna and offer a generous honor-system sliding scale for students and those with other insurance plans. We also provide complimentary consultation calls to help students find the therapist who feels like the right fit. Our goal is not simply symptom reduction, but helping you develop a deeper understanding of yourself, strengthen your relationships, and build a life that feels more connected, fulfilling, and aligned with your values.
