You can usually manage the anxiety, but lately it feels out of control. You realize you can’t handle this alone. You need help. Maybe this sounds familiar? - Times where you feel like you can’t breathe, your heart is pounding out of your chest and you feel desperate. - You can't sleep through the night - You can’t concentrate and it’s affecting school or work - You can’t ever relax. Your body is tense and frequently in pain. **Counseling can provide relief and tools to help you feel calm and more in control.
Transitions: An Athletic and Life Skills Program was developed in July 1999 because of the need to educate individuals across the life span of the strategies and skills used for successful transitions in life. Individuals already possess the skills that are needed. However, they may be unaware of their own strategies and/or their skills are not fully developed. Through my counseling services and the life skills program, needs of the individual are met by utilizing individual or group counseling sessions, couples, marriage or family counseling, workshops, speaking engagements and/or group/team building exercises with all being provided with personal attention. In 2007, the company name was changed to Transitions Counseling Service and Life Skills Program. If you haven’t heard this yet, you aren’t too much or too complicated. You can be helped and it is not too late. You do not have to do this alone. I want to be on this journey with you. Whether we explore your addiction or relationship with substances, put the pieces together again after a life transition or relationship ending, or navigate challenges including family conflict/estrangement or a loved ones addiction, I am here to support and help. I'm a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) specializing in addiction and substance use. With over 13 years experience, I have seen and heard it all. Addiction comes with many complications; I anticipate that. I treat co-occurring issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic medical issues, women's issues, and complex family dynamics. It's ok to not know where to start. My goal is to give you a space where you can feel free to explore the things you keep tucked inside. You set our pace. I am client-centered using CBT with motivational interviewing and experiential work. I believe that there are connections between past and present thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
You’re doing a lot for everyone, and at the same time you’re trying to hold on to who you are. Maybe you’re figuring out adulthood, balancing school or work, managing relationships, or trying to feel like “yourself” while also being there for other people. Big changes — starting college, career shifts, breakups, becoming a parent, identity changes — can feel overwhelming, lonely, or like a loss. You don’t have to sort it out alone. This is a space to say what’s really going on, without having to minimize it or make it sound okay. I'm real, warm & nonjudgmental. I work with people who are stressed, burnt out, anxious, hurting or just trying to stay afloat. I have deep experience supporting college students, young adults, people exploring identity & people living with self-harm or suicidal thoughts. We’ll slow things down, make sense of what’s happening & figure out what actually works. Therapy doesn’t have to be formal or scary. It can just be you and me, talking honestly about what you’re carrying and what you want next. If you’re ready to feel more grounded and supported, reach out. I’m currently accepting new clients and offer flexible scheduling. Send a message or request a session to get started.
Trauma Healing takes time and patience, and for a lot of us with Complex Trauma, this may be something we continually manage as life ebbs and flows. However, it doesn’t have to be a life-long pattern of pain and feeling constantly dysregulated. I invite you to feel within that fear/ anxiety/ dysregulation and make meaning from it. I support folx to heal deep emotional wounds that come from past anxiety, trauma, stress and help them hone-in on their inner experience as a means to gain insight. I offer individual sessions in person and via telehealth (please inquire about current COVID protocols and if in-person sessions are currently being held). My general goal for folx is to help them identify what they need so that they are able to continue on their healing journey, eventually, without my support. I do this by helping you to cultivate self-awareness and expose you to a variety of coping skills. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming, anti-racist, anti-fascist, and inclusive in my approach.
I am a lover of liminal spaces. To me, the liminal, the “in-between”, is a space of great possibility. It lies at the edge of certainty and uncertainty. It beckons us to drop what we think we know and be with what is actually present. My identities and life experiences give me a sense of being “in-between.” I’m a gender fluid, Puerto Rican person who grew up in the diaspora. I grew up in a military family and spent my childhood moving from place to place. As an adult, I continued to move, spending years living and working in the Pacific Islands and Latin America. I explore liminal spaces in my exploration of fiber art, as well as in my music. I love to create new combinations of seemingly opposing elements, whether that is an innovative way of weaving or creating a folksy version of a salsa song. As a therapist, my “in-between” experiences reinforce my belief that when we can stay present in the place of flux, of uncertainty, then change and transformation is possible. I have spent over 8 years providing somatic, present-moment focused, and intuitive psychotherapy to survivors of sexual violence, sexual abuse and individuals experiencing grief. I combine extensive training in Gestalt therapy, Internal Family Systems, psychedelic-assisted therapy and mindfulness-based interventions to aid clients in creating lives they love. My activism and commitment to social justice come to bear in years of experience in community mental health. I believe that personal healing is bound in collective healing, that we are all threads in the larger tapestry of life. Through my practice, I aim to empower individuals to invest in their wholeness, health, and joy, recognizing that we are all the medicine we need.

My approach in working with clients is to explore and understand their psychological experiences. In addition, I use psychoeducation and neuroeducation to help clients intellectually understand why they are experiencing what they are experiencing, then collaborate on an actionable plan to change undesired behaviors and thought patterns. I incorporate mind-body interventions to help clients manage their symptoms. My therapeutic approach is evidence-based & integrative. I have extensive trainings and experience in trauma therapy & dialectical behavioral therapy.
As a first-generation college graduate, I know how challenging it can be to find your way. For this reason, I helped students on their college journeys for over a decade before transitioning to clinical practice. Many of my clients are cycle-breakers: the first in their family to address mental health concerns and build healthier relationships. I help clients manage anxiety, depression and challenging family relationships (i.e. emotionally immature parents/adults). You CAN have a different experience. If this resonates with you, schedule a free consultation to talk about how I can support you on your journey.

The Therapy Gal was created to destigmatize and normalize mental health and therapy. We have a lighthearted approach to describing therapy, and a more thoughtful style in how we approach each individual client. As systemically trained therapists – meaning we take your system into consideration (i.e. your caregivers, siblings, school, friends, etc.) – we can better assess what makes you you, and what has affected you thus far. Our goal is to support you through becoming the best version of yourself, and to help you become well-equipped with various coping strategies that will get you through these tough transitional periods.
