Therapists for college students near University of Pittsburgh
My name is Maryrose (she/her). I grew up in Reading Pennsylvania and am blessed to call Philly my home. As a woman, a highly sensitive person, and a chronic illness survivor, I let my lived experiences of grief, healing, and transformation guide my work with you in your quest toward greater wellness. With experience serving young adult clients and a background in yoga and meditation instruction, I draw on a holistic approach to support your whole being in moving through life's challenges with more ease and peace. In my free time you can find me singing, dancing, painting, strumming my guitar, and exploring the natural wonders of PA.
I help adults and young people who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward. My style is straightforward and collaborative — we look at what’s getting in your way, identify unhelpful thinking patterns, and build practical tools that actually make life feel lighter and more manageable. I work best with clients who appreciate honesty, want real change, and are open to trying new ways of thinking and responding
When depression, anxiety, or trauma overshadows your thoughts, it can be difficult to even imagine how life could be different. Whether you are struggling with work-life balance, relationships, or life transitions, I offer new ways of thinking and a personalized treatment plan that empowers you to live your most meaningful life. I also have significant experience treating college students, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and people of color. I am a psychiatrist practicing in Philadelphia with virtual appointments available for patients in PA, NJ, and NY. In addition to prescribing medications, I incorporate multiple psychotherapy modalities to best suit your needs. I am also happy to collaborate with your existing therapist if your need at this time is primarily medication management. I graduated from Harvard College with High Honors in the Comparative Study of Religion and received my MD from Thomas Jefferson University with a certificate in clinical translational research. I completed my Adult Psychiatry residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC. I also received additional psychotherapy training at NY Psychoanalytic Society & Institute. Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates is a network of about 25 Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners and Psychotherapists who are academically oriented and practice evidence-based care. We treat anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and ADHD. We additionally provide neuropsychological assessments for accommodations. Services include Psychiatric Evaluations, Medication Management and Psychotherapy. Patients can generally be seen within 2-3 weeks. We do not have admitting privileges at local hospitals, and therefore, if a patient is high risk for self-harm, is acutely suicidal or needing crisis intervention, has a history of inpatient psychiatric admissions, suicide attempts, or psychosis, we may recommend providers with additional emergency resources outside of our practice.

Alex Kapnek, LPC, is an LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist who specializes in working with neurodivergent clients navigating trauma, addiction, and emotional dysregulation. They bring a compassionate and collaborative approach to therapy, offering personalized care for those who have found that traditional talk therapy “just wasn’t working.” Their work invites curiosity, safety, and authentic connection—creating a space where clients can feel truly seen and supported in their growth. Their sessions emphasize grounding in the body and cultivating awareness, helping clients develop deeper self-understanding and sustainable coping strategies. With over a decade of experience in trauma recovery and addiction treatment, including three years working at an inpatient facility specializing in trauma and sex addiction, Alex supports clients in building resilience, reducing emotional reactivity, and living with greater clarity and self-compassion. I had a hard time finding a therapist that thought like me when I was a younger. As a member of the LGBT+ community, it is important to me that my clients know I hear the ways that the world is not built for them. Our work in therapy is to find ways to get your needs met in an often unaccommodating or misunderstanding world. I recognize the power of your experiences and how relationships (healthy & unhealthy) can define your perspective on yourself and others. Building a trusting rapport with you as your therapist is my top priority. Together we can make sense of what happened, your reactions, and how to reclaim a sense of self, safety, and belonging in the world by your own definition. I am a pre-licensed clinician based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania under supervision of multiple licensed clinicians.
I offer a client centered approach to care, valuing honesty, compassion, and accountability. I believe that that the client/therapist relationship should be one that is based on mutual trust & respect, open & honest communication, and ability to work collaboratively on treatment goals. If you are thinking about taking that brave next step, I would love to meet you, and it would be an honor to embark on that journey with you! I offer a remote treatment experience for those that would prefer to remain in the comfort of their own home. You can expect our first session to be a laid-back conversation, where you can share with me only what you feel comfortable as we build trust. If you wish to continue, we will set some goals together and work on a plan that meets your needs. Whether you are struggling with social pressures, academia stress, the adjustment to college life, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, or just feeling overwhelmed-- I am here to offer support and empowerment along the way.
Hello, I am Abby, and am an experienced and empathic marriage/family therapist that provides services to individuals, couples, and families for issues including relationship struggles, anxiety, depression, parent/child difficulties, co-parenting struggles, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and trauma/PTSD. I have a history of working as an Addiction counselor along with Family Based Therapy. I use a combination of CBT, Strength Based Focus, Relational focus, and family-focused therapy styles to help with emotional regulation, developing boundaries, self-care, and overall awareness. If you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, difficulties adjusting, ADHD, relationship challenges, co-parenting challenges, or just feeling overwhelmed and stressed, I am here to help. Starting therapy can be scary and is the first big step in the healing process. I will provide you with a safe, non-judgmental, and therapeutic space to work on healing
Welcome! Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, so I strive to create a space where you feel seen, heard, and truly understood. Every person who walks into therapy is different, and I honor that. I work with teens, adults, and older adults navigating life’s challenges—whether it’s managing anxiety, coping with change, building confidence, or simply wanting to feel more like yourself again. Some of my clients are high performers or athletes; others are just trying to manage daily stress, relationships, or emotional overwhelm. No matter your story, I tailor therapy to fit your unique needs—drawing from approaches like CBT and strengths-based strategies. I’m passionate about this work because I’ve seen how mental health impacts every part of life—from performance and relationships to life transitions and confidence. As a former West Chester University Division II athlete, I understand firsthand the mental load that comes with high performance, pressure, and pushing through—even when you’re not okay. That lived experience helps me support clients who are navigating high expectations, both in sport and in life. In our sessions, you can expect a collaborative, nonjudgmental space where I get to know you and your goals. I believe therapy works best when it’s a team effort. Together, we’ll explore what’s working, what’s getting in the way, and what needs to shift. My style is a blend of warmth, honesty, and gentle challenge. I’ll always meet you where you are, but I’m not afraid to help you look at patterns that may be holding you back. Whether you need space to process, a sounding board for decision-making, or someone to help connect the dots—I’m here to listen deeply, ask thoughtful questions, and offer honest feedback to help you make meaningful progress. If you’re ready to prioritize your well-being—whether as an individual or an athlete—I’d be honored to support you on that journey!
