I work well with clients who want to learn skills to cope with what they're going through as well as get to the root of the issues. As a therapist I am warm, flexible, and seek to create a brave space in which clients can bring their full selves to the room. While my focus has been trauma and trauma treatments, most of my clients are coming in for help with understanding the role their families have in their lives and changing relationships. Many of my clients are navigating how to be in relationship with parents who have different values and experiences, or maybe don't understand how their actions and choices have impacted my clients. Some topics I work with clients on include: anxiety, stress, perfectionism, over achieving, negative childhood or family experiences, and issues around identity. Some of my clients want to learn concrete skills for managing where they are at in their lives, while others want to get into the depths around who they are and why they do what they do. For both I show up consistently as a sounding board who provides gentle and often direct feedback.

NOW SCHEDULING, in person/virtual appointments. Reach out via phone or text 346-901-7309 or visit us online at solacecounselingandcoaching.com We work with Zen the Therapy Cat upon request (Facebook/Instagram-@zenthetherapycat). We take most major insurance plans and offer low fees for self-pay clients. Are you feeling as if it’s difficult to enjoy life to the fullest? Perhaps it’s hard to relax and have fun, or the pressures of work or school leave little room for anything else. You may have realized the expectations you set for yourself are unrealistic, that you compare your negatives with others’ positives and over commit or overwhelm yourself, leading to burnout. You might have difficulty making decisions, or have a hard time figuring out the ‘rules’ of life. Drawing boundaries, especially when doing so feels scary, might be a challenge, leading you to give into people that guilt or intimidate you. Perhaps you place the needs of others before your own, and are left feeling resentful when your own aren’t met, or perhaps you take out frustration on the ones you love. You are not alone. My passion is helping clients as they work to better understand themselves, their personal and family histories, and the world around them. I work with adults and adolescents to reduce and manage symptoms of depression and anxiety, process grief and trauma, improve relationships, and change behavioral patterns such as procrastination or perfectionism. I am a believer in therapy to alleviate distress but also as a regular part of wellness and recognize the importance the connection between our minds and bodies. I understand the dynamics that affect adult children of alcoholics and dysfunctional families and survivors of child abuse and neglect. I enjoy working with adults from such backgrounds as they take a look back, build a more complete picture of their life story, and often find solace in knowing that they aren’t alone. My first career was in public-school education, and I've worked extensively with high school and college students. I have witnessed the stress that students are often under just trying to stay afloat. Working as a motivational speaker and speech and debate coach has allowed me to follow a passion for helping others find their voice. I have experience in coaching teens and adults to use words and ideas to change themselves and the world around them.

In a few weeks, you could be unstuck from what’s holding you back. Let’s get started. If you’ve never been in therapy, I’ll make this easy. If you're coming back, I’ll honor what you already know. We’ll get to know each other and understand what you'd like to change. During our sessions, you will always be the expert in how your life works, and I’ll share with you a research-based approach to creating mental health. We'll work toward goals as a team, in a process that fits your unique background (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, sex, sexual orientation identity, religious affiliation); respecting your values is important to me. I use treatments that we know work. These therapies not only help you overcome problems you’re experiencing right now, but I’ll teach you skills to resolve future problem that might come your way, too. While handling emotions in a new way might feel strange, I’ll be there to walk you through the process. I completed a Ph.D. in counseling psychology at the University of Utah, and fellowship in trauma psychology at the South Texas VA. I live in San Antonio, Texas, where I am a professor at the University of Texas School of Medicine. In my free time, I love fitness and exploring small Texas towns. You may feel disconnected from yourself—questioning your worth, your decisions, or your place in relationships. Perhaps your inner dialogue is critical, self-doubt feels persistent, or you find yourself repeating the same unhelpful relationship patterns. As an individual or as a couple, you want more than symptom relief. You want clarity, confidence, and healthier ways of relating—to yourself and to each other. You’re looking for a space to slow down, make sense of what’s weighing on you, and begin showing up differently in your life and relationships. I take a trauma-informed, integrative approach tailored to your needs. I believe insight fosters understanding, clarity, and awareness—and once awareness is present, change becomes a choice. Together, we’ll explore the thought patterns and relational dynamics shaping how you see yourself and show up in your relationships. Depending on your goals, we may explore how past experiences affect the present or focus on practical strategies for current challenges. I work with individuals and couples facing self-esteem concerns, identity struggles, unhelpful thinking patterns, relationship stress, burnout, and life transitions.

Licensed Professional Counselor

Irving, TX

I’m an LPC with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University and 2 years of clinical experience in both nonprofit and private practice settings. I work with individuals and couples navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, borderline personality disorder (BPD), bipolar disorder, relationship challenges, and life transitions. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling stuck in patterns that are hard to change on their own, overwhelmed by emotions, or unsure how to move forward in relationships or in life. My approach is eclectic and personalized, drawing from CBT, DBT, humanistic, gestalt, existential, and narrative therapy. I believe in unconditional positive regard, autonomy, and transparency—clients are the experts of their own lives, and my role is to help guide and support meaningful, lasting change in a way that fits who they are. In our first session, we complete a biopsychosocial assessment, talk through your goals, and make space for any questions you have about therapy. From there, we collaborate on a plan that feels comfortable and supportive, gradually exploring your history and patterns while building toward practical, forward-focused growth.
