Taylor Jefcoat-Ferriss, LPC (Ferriss Counseling PLLC)
Does it feel like the "best years of your life" are actually filled with more anxiety, academic pressure, and self-doubt than you expected? Maybe you’ve noticed that your use of alcohol or marijuana—initially a way to relax or fit in—has started to take up more space in your life than you intended. If you’re searching for relief from the weight of depression, stress, or shame, I’m here to help you find a sustainable way forward. I am passionate about helping college students and young adults navigate the unique pressures of campus life, identity discovery, and relationship burnout. My goal is to develop a genuine connection with you, creating a non-judgmental space where we can transform "surviving" into intentional living. Whether you are working through past trauma or trying to break a cycle of substance use that no longer serves you, we will work together to reclaim your time, energy, and sense of self. I utilize an eclectic therapeutic toolkit tailored to your specific needs, including CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, and EMDR. These aren’t just buzzwords; they are practical tools designed to help you see your own strength, value, and worth. We won’t just talk about the problems; we’ll work on mending life’s stressors so you can build a life filled with meaningful identity and intentional relationships. Why Virtual? Between labs, internships, and social lives, your time is your most valuable asset. I provide high-quality, private teletherapy that fits into your gaps between classes. Virtual therapy allows you to receive support from the comfort and privacy of your own space—no travel time or waiting rooms required. You've taken the first step just by being here. When you’re ready, you can email or call me. I’d love to hear your story and help you get started.

Mental health is defined as the ability to love, and the ability to work; to be able to have stable and emotionally fulfilling relationships with others, to take care of your daily needs, and to be able to enjoy using your time creatively and productively. As a counselor, I aim to join with my clients and help them identify their troubles, explore their origins, and create unique solutions to help them live the life they hope for. While my work is very relational and focuses more on meeting the unique needs of individuals, I use specific techniques drawn from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I have seven years experience working with young adults, especially neurodivergent young adults on the autism spectrum or with ADHD or learning differences. I particularly enjoy vocational counseling and helping clients navigate life transitions. Many of my clients have complicated diagnositic histories and may have struggled to connect with other counselors in the past. I accept insurance through Headway and also accept private pay through card, cash, check, or Zelle. Please feel free to ask me about sliding scale.

Hello there! I know that life can be challenging, and at times, it can feel overwhelming to navigate everything on your own. If you’re feeling stuck, anxious, or simply in need of a space where you can process your thoughts and emotions freely, I want you to know that you don’t have to go through it alone. Therapy isn’t about fixing what’s “wrong” with you—it’s about embracing your story, discovering your strengths, and finding new ways to care for yourself. I’m here to offer warmth, understanding, and compassionate support as we work together toward these things.

Our time together will be spent figuring the aspects- emotional, intellectual, sensory-based, and behavioral- of life through out your own story. Growing into learning how to listen to yourself so you can trust what it is you know, and what it is you need will be at the core of each session so that the feelings of stress, overwhelm, anxiousness, depression no longer keep you detached from yourself. The tools I use are done with cultural considerations, and by acknowledging the extra burdens social constructs and systemic environments put on you. I start with listening and being a witness to your story. With your consent, I use therapeutic tools to assist you in taking an objective stance in your story, and in offering yourself compassion. Continuing through developing and honing in on how you understand your experience through strengthening the connection between your mind and body. I am also trained in and have used EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) with children, teens, adults of both the neurodiverse (Autism, ADHD, etc.) and neurotypical populations. EMDR is used in session, with your consent, when you feel the need to address larger internal hurdles such as phobias or trauma(s) (also known as PTSD or C-PTSD). All of the work will be done at your pace and with your specific needs in mind. I am an affirming counselor and believe counseling should be for everyone. I understand the systemic pressure that can have you trying to “get it right!” A benefit to you may be my stance on de-stigmatizing mental health by avoiding rigid diagnoses and accepting that there is more than one way to live and thrive in this/your world. I will be ready when you are. Until then, good luck on your search. My license number is #93296. I am supervised by Stamatis Bogdanos, LPC-S | #64556 in Houston, Tx. My clinical training experiences have largely centered around assessing the intersections of medical/health, psychological, and social aspects of individuals to facilitate successful outcomes in medical settings. With training from some of the leading experts in psychological assessment, I am also proficient in conducting disability/worker's compensation evaluations, pre-employment screening, and general psychodiagnostic evaluations in addition to pre-surgical assessments. I am licensed in the state of Texas (#38086) and hold a PsyPact license to practice in other states. My research focuses on understanding how psychological factors contribute to medical outcomes. I have over 60 peer-reviewed publications, primarily focused on pre-surgical psychological evaluations and their predictive value for various outcomes. I use my research findings to assist patients in managing risk factors before and after surgery to optimize their outcomes. Additionally, I have a keen interest in psychological assessment, particularly in the use and study of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) in both research and practice. I have been recognized by several national organizations with early-career research awards for my contributions to pre-surgical psychological evaluations. Currently, I am the Principal Investigator on novel psychological interventions for Type 2 Diabetes. I also serve as an Associate Editor for two esteemed journals in the field – Psychological Assessment and Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases.

My passion in counseling centers around helping clients heal from past trauma, while facilitating the rewiring of their nervous systems. I focus on supporting their journey toward feeling open to connection and personal growth. I would be honored to work with you and help you find the path that's going to help you make peace with the past, and write a new story moving forward. A story where you can be your own beacon of safety for yourself and for others. Healing from past traumatic experiences is possible, I've seen it for myself, and I fully believe it's possible for you as well. With a BA in Nursing in addition to my MA in counseling, my nursing background greatly influences my approach to counseling. I try to educate my clients on how the brain and how our nervous system works as much as possible, so that my clients can leave each session feeling empowered to work with their nervous system, and not against it. Together we can create the right goals, with the right timeline, that equip and empower you to see your beautiful self in a whole new light, with a sense of agency, and hope for your future. I encourage you to reach out for a free 30 minute consultation to see if we would be a good fit for each other, hope to hear from you soon!
