Therapists for college students near Houston, TX
Hello! I’m a therapist in private practice, and I work best with students and young adults who feel like they’re carrying a lot on the inside while trying to keep up on the outside. Many of the clients who are a great fit for my practice are navigating anxiety, low mood, self-esteem struggles, emotional dysregulation, grief and loss, the impact of past painful experiences, and major life transitions (starting college, changing majors, moving away from home, new relationships). If you feel overwhelmed, stuck, or like you “should be doing better” but can’t seem to turn it around, you’re not alone. Students often reach out when they’re: • Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or constantly “on edge.” • Stuck in overthinking, perfectionism, or procrastination • Feeling down, numb, unmotivated, or like it’s hard to care about things you used to enjoy • Burned out from juggling school, work, family, or big life changes • Struggling with confidence, self-worth, or a harsh inner critic • Having trouble with relationships, boundaries, or communication • Trying to heal after a painful experience, or coping with grief and loss In our sessions, we’ll slow things down and make sense of what you’re feeling, what’s been happening, and what you want to change. My approach is flexible based on your needs, but I often use CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), which helps you notice unhelpful thought patterns, understand how they affect your feelings and choices, and practice new ways of coping that fit your life. We’ll set clear goals, build practical skills you can use between sessions, and we’ll move at a pace that feels safe, especially if you’re working through trauma or loss. My style is warm, straightforward, and collaborative. You don’t need to know what to say or have a “perfect” reason to start therapy. If you’re looking for a space that feels supportive and real, where you can be honest, get tools that help, and feel more like yourself, I’d be glad to connect. We can start with what’s most urgent and go at a pace that feels manageable.
I work best with college students who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of what comes next. Maybe you’re balancing school, relationships, family expectations, or figuring out who you are. Therapy can be a space to slow down, make sense of what you’re feeling, and better understand yourself along the way.
My passion is in working with women struggling with relationships and balancing family and other priorities. I use a respectful, direct and collaborative approach in my sessions and believe that interpersonal relationships are a key factor in successfully navigating life. Transitions and challenges can offer us an opportunity to find greater understanding of purpose, more meaningful relationships, and increased confidence and personal gratification. I understand how difficult the process of counseling can be, but I also know the rewards that come from true healing. I am a Christian Counselor who brings extensive expertise in working with women struggling with issues such as marriage struggles, singleness, divorce, anxiety, codependency, communication, infertility/adoption/new moms. I also specialize in helping to navigate struggles with having a child with a diagnosis of Autism and I am a certified PEERS group leader. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Supervisor in the State of Texas and have been practicing for 19 years. I received my master's degree in counseling from Dallas Baptist University and also completed a master's degree (ThM) from Dallas Theological Seminary. I'm also certified to use "Prepare and Enrich" for pre-marital and marriage counseling.
Hi, I'm Dr. A. Welcome! College can be a difficult time, with lots going one. You're balancing classes, extracurriculars, relationships, work, and trying to figure out what you want to do with your life. I get it! There's a lot to think about! Whether you're nervous about upcoming exams, missing home, or navigating a challenging relationship, we'll work together to sort through your thoughts and figure out what makes the most sense for you.
Therapy is a great opportunity for individuals to overcome their struggles and issues that interfere with living a happy and healthy life. My goal for a positive and successful therapy experience is to help individuals work through issues and help provide strategies for change. I specialize in working with teenagers, emerging adults, and Millennials on issues relating to depression, anxiety, self-esteem, stress, grief and loss, relationships, communication, behavioral problems, and other significant life events. As a therapist, I partner with you to help you become more self-aware, strengthen and empower your mindset, and learn new problem-solving and coping skills. I help millennials thrive and achieve to be their authentic selves without being held back by their own fears.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Texas (licensed in both Texas and California), I specialize in providing support and guidance to individuals navigating ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence. My online practice is built on a foundation of empathy, multicultural competence, and the creation of safe, nonjudgmental space for all clients. I believe every person's journey is unique and deserves an approach tailored to their specific needs. By integrating evidence-based practices with a deep understanding of neurodivergent experiences, I help clients uncover their strengths, develop tools for success, and to live authentically in a world that was not created for them
The guys who are the best fit for my practice are college students who look like they have it all together on campus, but are secretly exhausted by unwanted sexual behavior, porn compulsion, or trying to break a cycle they can't kick on their own. You might be grinding through classes, ministry, or student leadership while carrying a massive load of shame and isolation behind closed doors. You're tired of white-knuckling it, turning to secret habits when stress hits, and feeling stuck in the same frustrating loops. If you are ready for a real, judgment-free space to drop the mask, figure out what's driving the behavior, and get your life back, you're in the right place.

In a few weeks, you could be unstuck from what’s holding you back. Let’s get started. If you’ve never been in therapy, I’ll make this easy. If you're coming back, I’ll honor what you already know. We’ll get to know each other and understand what you'd like to change. During our sessions, you will always be the expert in how your life works, and I’ll share with you a research-based approach to creating mental health. We'll work toward goals as a team, in a process that fits your unique background (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, sex, sexual orientation identity, religious affiliation); respecting your values is important to me. I use treatments that we know work. These therapies not only help you overcome problems you’re experiencing right now, but I’ll teach you skills to resolve future problem that might come your way, too. While handling emotions in a new way might feel strange, I’ll be there to walk you through the process. I completed a Ph.D. in counseling psychology at the University of Utah, and fellowship in trauma psychology at the South Texas VA. I live in San Antonio, Texas, where I am a professor at the University of Texas School of Medicine. In my free time, I love fitness and exploring small Texas towns. Howdy! My name is A.B. and I’m a queer, nonbinary therapist born and raised right here in Texas. Don’t let the folksy exterior fool you: growing up in a small town taught me to treat strangers like family, to uplift and respect the folks around me, and, as my granddad always said, “If you can help ’em, then help ’em.” I’ve brought those values into my therapy work and left the bigotry and systemic oppression behind like the hogwash it is. I practice from a place of cultural humility, guided by the stories, strengths, and values my clients bring to the table. You’re the expert on your life, I’m just here to walk alongside you, bringing the tools I’ve got in my toolbelt to help you navigate whatever’s weighing you down. There’s nothing too big we can’t face together, and I trust that with you in the lead, we can work toward the outcomes you’re hoping for in therapy. I specialize in supporting clients through trauma, grief, mood disorders, LGBTQ+ issues, neurodivergence, identity exploration, crisis recovery, and relationship challenges. I also love working with children and their families around emotional regulation, school and family stress, and communication. I’ve got a soft spot for neurodivergent kids (and adults!) and bring a lot of energy and creativity into that work. In session, I pull from a variety of therapeutic approaches, including CBT, DBT, ACT, solution-focused, narrative, and collaborative therapies, plus a lot more. So don’t be surprised if I throw in a little art-making, somatic work, or IFS (parts work) now and then. I’m committed to being a lifelong learner, and if something isn’t clicking, I’ll work with you to find what does. I earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Sam Houston State University in 2023, and before that, I got my B.A. in Theatre Education. So I’m definitely open to getting creative in sessions, though just plain talkin’ is great, too. Outside of therapy, I love baking, storytelling in all its forms (theatre, concerts, poetry slams, and tabletop RPGs), and learning about folks whose lives are different from mine. I also enjoy spending time with my partner and our beloved pets Pip, Charlie, and Winston. If you think I might be the right counselor for you, I’d be honored to meet you. Feel free to email me at ab@vadacounseling.com or schedule a free consultation online.
Hi there, I'm Gabriela! I would describe myself as a warm, supportive, and relational therapist, ensuring to build a strong connection with those I work with. I am dedicated to helping young adults find their footing in a world that often feels unstable. I have a passion for working with complex trauma, anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorder (BPD), self-esteem, and suicidal ideation. I’m Zac. My pronouns are they/them. I am a queer, nonbinary, and neurodivergent therapist and creative. I believe strongly in the power of connection, prioritizing things we enjoy, and maintaining curiosity, and those values guide my time with clients. I have years of experience working with college students of all ages and I'm passionate about offering support during an exciting, overwhelming time. I specialize in supporting LGBTQIA+ folks; individuals with Autism, ADHD, and/or Neurodivergence; those with interpersonal and chronic trauma, and those new to therapy. My hope for our time together is that you feel seen and heard, that you don’t worry about being judged or rejected—any of the feelings that make it difficult to speak up in life! Removing those barriers makes so much possible. I incorporate Relational-Cultural Therapy (RCT), mindfulness, realistic self-care, social justice and feminist theory, creative expression, creative coping strategies, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), safety planning, and fat & body liberation work. Ultimately, how I approach our sessions will be tailored to you.
I am a queer trans non-binary therapist and expressive arts therapist. My focus is providing individual therapy for LGBTQIA+ adults, women, and non-monogamous and polyamorous people. I specialize in working with trans and non-binary folks and people navigating relationships, building confidence, or wanting to engage the arts as part of therapy. I strive to create an environment where you can be yourself, feel comfortable exploring your experience and taking risks, and take steps towards what’s important to you. I am social justice oriented, neurodiversity-affirming, and work from a trauma-informed perspective. I am able to see clients in both Washington and Texas, and practice under the supervision of Candice Holloway, LPC-S and Breona Mendoza, LMHC. As expressive arts therapist, I often bring play and creative expression into therapy. This could include anything from creating a D&D character who represents part of your experience, to making a music playlist, to integrating visual art, movement, music, writing, or role-playing into our work. As a therapist, I am warm, engaged, and curious. You deserve a therapist that gets you – it’s important to me to take time to get to know you. I cheer you on and see myself as a facilitator and collaborator as you work towards your goals. As a human, I love camping, attending queer and sex-positive events, finding dogs, and trying new gluten free recipes.

I also provide SPACE training to help parents implement symptom-reduction skills for their child's anxiety and OCD. I believe that each individual brings their own unique experiences to counseling and that you are much more than your symptoms, even though it may not seem this way right now. Collaboratively, I will work towards helping you obtain your goals, meet you with genuine care, and help challenge your fears when fear stands in the way of your best quality of life.
