I have been a licensed psychologist for the last 27 years. I work from Psychodynamic (self-psychology/intersubjective/relational), Cognitive-Behavioral, and Systems perspectives, all of which I consider integral to effective work with clients. I also am certified in Therapeutic Assessment, which is using psychological testing to help clients get unstuck and to achieve the insights they seek (therapeuticassessment.com). In addition to my private practice, I was Clinical Professor in the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at the University of Denver for the past 25 years. I retired from the university at the end of 2023 with the Emeritus distinction.

I believe that healing involves the mind, body and soul. I focus primarily on relational methods, as I believe that the therapeutic bond is a place to practice and explore new ways of connecting, being vulnerable, feeling emotions, receiving care, and building self-awareness. My main methods of therapy are Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and Neuro-Affective Relational Model (NARM), both of which focus on using relationship to bring out each individual’s self-righting tendencies and heal past wounds.. I also am certified in EMDR and the DIR/Floortime developmental play therapy model. I have training in various parenting and family therapy methods, including Circle of Security and Developmental Dyadic Psychotherapy. I have a Bachelor’s degree in English and Spanish from Miami University in Ohio, an MBA from Northwestern University in Evanston, and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Kentucky. My Colorado license is #9925261. I am lucky to be married to a wonderful husband and have three boys, all beginning their journey into adulthood. I love to hike, read, and sit by the firepit with friends and family.

College is like a pressure cooker of compounding transitions. On top of demanding coursework, you are likely navigating the intense world of identity exploration. This can mean a lot of things; from the deeply personal layers of discovering your sexual orientation and gender identity, to simply figuring out who you are as an individual and what you actually want out of romantic and sexual relationships. As a queer therapist, I intimately understand the unique difficulties of navigating these shifts. I have walked this path myself, personally navigating profound changes in my own sexual orientation and gender identity, and I know how isolating it can feel to explore these core parts of yourself while trying to maintain your GPA. It is incredibly common to feel stuck in a major or career track that feels entirely wrong, paralyzed by the fear of starting over. I know that panic firsthand. I spent years working as a software developer before a season of deep introspection and counseling gave me the courage to make a massive pivot. Today, I am in a field I love deeply; one that brings me genuine passion far beyond a paycheck. If you are feeling misaligned with your current path, I offer specialized career counseling to help you cut through the external expectations, decode your true strengths, and confidently identify a professional field that actually fits your authentic self. Whether you are drowning in academic stress, untangling painful relationship patterns, processing trauma, or facing a complete directional pivot, you do not have to figure it out alone. Together, we will address the practical mechanics of stress management while diving deep into the relational dynamics that keep you stuck. I provide an encouraging, explicitly inclusive, and safe space where no topic is too messy or taboo. Your college years can feel incredibly destabilizing, but our work together will help you build the self-trust and clarity needed to step out of survival mode and into a life that is genuinely, authentically your own.

The journey to find your true self looks different for each individual and it is my goal to join you specifically where you are and walk alongside you as you find your way to where you’d like to be. I work in both private practice counseling and neurofeedback having experience working with clients suffering from anxiety, depression, relationship problems, sleep issues, eating disorders, learning disabilities, self-exploration, and much more. It is the most incredible feeling to join the process of somebody finding themselves and understanding that they have the power to make positive and lasting changes in their lives. With an empowering & non-judgmental approach I utilize CBT & SFT with skills including motivational interviewing, mindfulness, & Adlerian therapy. In addition, I can incorporate neurofeedback which is a technology that maps a client’s brain & discovers dysregulation. We can then address specific brain-based causes for many emotional and behavioral issues. My mission is to create a collaborative, holistic, and healthy therapeutic relationship individualized for you. I am honored to be in the position to see growth and change in people as they take steps to improve their lives. Please call for a free 15 minutes consultation to see if we would be a good match.

Licensed Professional Counselor

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, my work is rooted in helping teens and adults navigate complex trauma, late-diagnosed or suspected neurodivergent experiences, and the deeper questions of identity, relationships, and purpose. Whether you're processing a difficult life transition, untangling a late diagnosis of autism or ADHD, or beginning to understand how past experiences have shaped who you are today, I'm here to help you find clarity, connection, and a path forward. I believe in the power of connection and the idea that every part of you has value, which helps me be a genuine partner in building something that actually works for you. There’s no clipboard here, no one-size-fits-all plan handed down without context. Together, we'll explore who you are, tinker with the pieces, and discover the purpose you came here to find. You can expect warmth, honesty, and a comfortable space that feels both safe and genuine throughout our time together. Drawing on humanistic, neuroscience-based, attachment theory, and solution-focused approaches, we'll explore your relationships, emotions, identity, and purpose in a way that's collaborative from the start. Your plan is built with you, not for you, because your needs, experiences, and goals are the compass for everything we do together. Authentic and curious by nature, I believe that all parts of a person are worth examining and none of them are broken. That conviction shows up in every session. My path to becoming a therapist began in grief counseling and restorative justice intervention, where I witnessed firsthand how much a genuine human connection could change someone's trajectory. That experience deepened my commitment to relationship-centered care, where the therapeutic connection itself is part of the healing process. More than 10 years of advanced training from CU Boulder and Northwestern University ground my clinical practice, but what I bring to the work goes beyond a résumé: vulnerable humanity, genuine curiosity, and the occasional well-timed laugh. Outside of sessions, you'll find me in the boxing gym, tending to my aquariums, or playing percussion in bluegrass and folk music. These pursuits keep me grounded, present, and endlessly curious, qualities I carry into every session with you.

I am originally from California, but have called Colorado (Denver) my home for the last thirteen years. While I do miss the ocean, I love being in the mountains and all they have to offer. When I am not working, I am often playing in my garden, doing something in the kitchen, spending time with friends and family, or traveling. I am the same person during session as I am outside of session; laid back, a little goofy, genuinely curious about others’ lives, and compassionate. I use she/her pronouns. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) and am licensed to see clients in Colorado, Indiana, Florida and Nevada. I have been practicing therapy since 2013 and truly enjoy working with my clients. I love learning about how trauma and stress can impact our minds, bodies and nervous systems and the ways we can heal and start to feel better. I am a Certified Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist as well as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). I often use a mixture of EMDR, Somatic Experiencing (SE), attachment, parts focused, and mindfulness techniques to help clients begin to unpack stressful or traumatic events and begin to integrate a sense of healing back into their minds and bodies. These techniques can be helpful for clients struggling with anxiety and depression symptoms, who have experienced one or more traumatic events, substance use, emotion regulation, or uncomfortable body sensations.

Let's be honest; it's HARD to find a culturally sensitive therapist who understands what it's like to navigate life as a person of color, especially in the state of Colorado. How do you explain your deep love and respect for certain aspects of your culture while at the same time, acknowledge your disdain for the harmful parts of it? How do you sort through the trauma of not having your emotional needs met as a child while still feeling grateful for your parents' best attempts at loving you? How do you process the desire to assimilate into the dominant culture while not wanting to fully abandon important elements of your identity? As a first-generation American born to ethnically Chinese immigrants from Southeast Asia, I understand the joys and frustrations that can come from navigating life between multiple cultures. It is from this lived experience that my passion for supporting others who find themselves in the in-between spaces of their various backgrounds and identities was born. I am especially passionate about supporting other adult children of immigrants, multicultural individuals, transracial adoptees, and BIPOC folks of all cultural backgrounds. I am also Theraplay-trained and offer play therapy to children, with a specific focus on adoptees and little ones who need extra support navigating their big emotions.

Healing is rarely a straight path, and having the right support can make all the difference. As a mental health therapist, my work centers on helping adults 18 and older from diverse backgrounds navigate the ways mental health shapes their personal, professional, and social lives, whether that means managing everyday stress or working through more complex challenges. My commitment is to meet you exactly where you are, as a collaborative partner on your therapeutic journey, to help you build the tools and insight needed to move forward. Together, we'll work toward the clarity, resilience, and hope you deserve. Compassionate, humorous, and guided by you — that's the foundation of how I show up for every person I work with. I believe deeply in the healing power of human connection, and getting to witness that unfold in practice is what drives me. At all times, you can expect a nonjudgmental space where laughter is always welcome alongside the harder conversations. My style is empathetic and adaptive, drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Mindfulness-based approaches to strengthen your sense of well-being across all areas of life. Your unique goals, experiences, and needs shape the direction of our work together, because the most meaningful progress happens when care is truly tailored to you. My path to becoming a therapist began with first being a patient myself. This experience gave me a deep appreciation for the courage it takes to seek support and the profound impact attentive, caring treatment can have on a person's life. Today, that lived experience informs every session I offer. Alongside my clinical training, it grounds me in empathy and authentic presence, and I'm just as eager to learn from your story as I am to share the tools that may help you write the next chapter. Outside of the therapy room, you'll find me recharging through creative and outdoor pursuits. Drawing and painting offer a meditative outlet, while fishing and archery bring a welcome sense of patience and focus. Reading keeps my curiosity alive, and regular walks help me stay grounded, a practice I find just as valuable in everyday life as in the work we do together.
