Are you in college, a young adult, or navigating a major life transition and feeling like everyone else got a manual for this stage of life, that you somehow missed? Maybe you're questioning who you are, what you want, or where you’re headed. You might feel stuck between family expectations and who you're becoming, or you're feeling pressure to "figure it all out", as you balance school, work, and relationships. I specialize in working with young adults navigating identity development, exploring sexuality and gender, relationship challenges and life transitions. You don’t have to have everything clearly defined before starting therapy. You might just know that something feels off, that you’re stressed, disconnected, unsure, or not living fully as yourself. Therapy can be a space to slow down, untangle competing expectations, and build clarity and confidence. My approach is warm, collaborative, and practical. I aim to create a space where you feel understood, not judged. Together, we’ll build on your existing strengths and develop concrete tools and greater insight to help you grow into a more confident, self-trusting version of yourself. If you’re ready for support, I’d be honored to connect.

I have 20 years of working with clients on anxiety, burnout, and overwhelm. I love building new wellness practices that are accessible and sustainable -- identifying challenges, utilizing coping skills, and creating easy self-care practices for your day. It's wonderful to see clients shift from having distress at their symptoms to feeling confident about their ability to handle what life throws at them. After 20 years of working and learning, I utilize a wide range of approaches -- the classic Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to reframe unhelpful thoughts, somatic practices like yoga, Emotional Freedom Technique, and mindfulness and breath work to help settle the body, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to get to know with caring and curiosity what is behind the triggers and automatic responses. My pronouns are she/her, and I strive to incorporate a feminist and anti-racist perspective into my work.

I have over 25 years experience working with teenagers and adults. I understand the social, behavioral, and academic challenges clients face, not only with the pandemic, but with social media, peer pressure, self-esteem, eating disorders, relationships, decision making, substance use, suicidal thoughts, and self-harm. I provide cognitive behavior therapy, which is to help clients understand why they are thinking and behaving the way they are and to help them understand that in order to change for the long term, they need to first understand what is causing the problem. I help clients develop coping skills and self-care strategies for in the moment and every day use.
About me: I have a strong belief in therapy because I've successfully used it. I've had my own personal exploration into suffering and I've made my way out of these fogs by utilizing the support of others. It is my experience that no one lives their best life alone. Connection has the capacity to offer regulation and engender strength. I honor my sense of humanity that allows me to tend and befriend others, and take joy in my sense of playfulness that can bring a smile or a laugh to someone at the just the right moment. About my work: I work through an integrated lens, currently drawing on EFT, neuroscience, mindfulness, and positive psychology to explore how lifestyle, relationships, and early experiences shape our wellbeing. I also use the power of storytelling to help reframe the limiting narratives we carry about ourselves. Lately, I've been doing meaningful work with clients navigating OCD tendencies, using approaches including ERP and ACT. I am also working to expand my expertise through continued education in somatic approaches, chronic illness and premenstrual disorders, to support the full complexity of what my clients carry. My goal is to create a space that feels safe, to help people trust themselves again, and to help them recommit to life — through the big things and the small. About my credentials: I graduated from Lesley University with a MA in Mental Health Counseling in 2018. I am a Massachusetts licensed mental health counselor with experience in a variety of outpatient therapeutic settings. I welcome your questions.

Hi, my name is Jonah Bayer and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Massachusetts. I primarily work with students on anxiety, depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder. " I use a blend of modalities, including DBT, EMDR and mindfulness skills in a holistic way to help work through issues that might be holding you back. My practice is unique due to my own life informed experience as a musician, journalist and psychotherapist. I am Counseling psychologist, and I've worked in college mental health for the last five years, first as a therapist at Syracuse University's counseling center, then at Rhode Island School of Design's counseling center. I both provided therapy, and helped train others to provide therapy. I love working with students and helping them adjust to being at a university, figuring out how to cope with the demands of college, and find their way in the university system to make sure that they have access to not just tools for their mental health- but access to academic supports, financial assistance, and resources to help them work with their faculty members. I'm a generalist- I work with people across a wide range of issues and identities, and so I really try to tailor what I'm doing to fit what YOU need. I also have specialised training in LGBTQ+ mental health and treatment for Trauma. I believe that we are whole people, and our identities, culture, and access to resources are important to understand, respond to and support in therapy. I both work to help you understand your experience so you can respond in new and creative ways, and also know and use pragmatic strategy-based approaches that give you concrete ideas how to take the next step. If that sounds like a fit for you, reach out and I'm happy to speak more!

We know that searching for a therapist can be one of the most difficult parts of coping, healing, and self-empowerment, because it's the first thing you must do. You must force yourself out of your comfort zone and out of whatever routine you've had before, to take the initiative and embark on a new path. When we're at our best, stepping out of our comfort zones can be daunting; when we're feeling vulnerable, it can seem nearly impossible. No matter what prompted you to take this first step, we'd like to be there for your second. Our clinicians focus on creating an empathic environment where you feel safe and relaxed, and where we can use every tool available to brighten your present and empower your future.
While we may not always have control over all aspects of our lives, we have control over how we choose to react, how we make meaning of our situation, and most importantly how we grow from the challenges presented to us. I work with adults throughout the lifespan, from young adults to older adults, in an individual and group therapy setting. I specialize in working with depression, anxiety, trauma, identity development, life transitions, and navigating relationships. I love working with clients who recognize the need for change in their lives and are motivated to work towards bettering their relationship with themselves and others. I utilize both psychodynamic (how the past influences the present) and interpersonal approaches (how relational patterns impact psychological well-being) to therapy. In addition, I also borrow from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)/Mindfulness to help build healthy coping strategies. I do not believe in a one size fits all therapy, but I do believe in two necessary factors: hope and a strong therapeutic relationship. Hope ignites the courage to take the first step towards change and the therapeutic relationship is the vessel in which the journey towards change takes place.

Is Therapy right for me? Therapy is an opportunity for you to explore, reflect upon, and work to overcome issues or circumstances in your life with someone who can be objective yet very much invested in you becoming stronger, healthier, and happier. Counseling as a process is meant to challenge you to face and work through any difficulties you are experiencing because of either past, present, or future concerns. It is typically a weekly meeting between you and your counselor that gives you the space to have an open dialogue about what you are facing, confront your feelings in a more honest way, or to decide how you want to approach solving a problem in your life. The length of counseling is unique for each individual, depending upon on your needs and goals. Essentially, the counseling process is driven by you. We have two therapists at our facility, Bushra Husain, DSW LCSW, Maryum Khwaja, LCSW.
