I specialize in adolescent youths and young adults trying to find their way whether it’s managing stress, navigating through life, or overcoming obstacles. As a neurodivergent individual myself, I can help give tools, coping skills, and validate your experiences to help relieve some stress from your diagnoses so you can live a fuller life!
We all have a way of maintaining safety in relationships and making the world "work." However, from time to time, we realize that these strategies may or may not be leading us to the life we've wanted. I greatly enjoy working with women experiencing anxiety and relationship difficulties - often manifesting as high achievement and/or perfectionism. Many of my current clients are in the helping professions - mental health, medicine, faith-based ministry. Together, we begin to explore interpersonal patterns and tendencies as well as core beliefs and narratives, with the goal of creating a new story. Hi there! My name is Kimmie and I practice through Embrace Change Therapy. I believe you are the expert in your life, and I am to support you through whatever journey you may be on. There is so much that happens in life; it’s very easy to become overwhelmed. When we slow down and take it one step at a time, we are able to accomplish goals and establish new ways of thinking as well as develop a wide range of coping skills. I meet you where you are, and together we can move forward to achieve your goals! Therapy is not a one fits all, so I work from a combination of modalities, mostly CBT, strengths based, and motivational interviewing depending on clientele. I've worked with clients from a variety of backgrounds, and love to learn about each and every one as their own individual selves. My philosophy in life is that there is always room for learning and growth. I believe we both have things to offer in therapy, and can't wait to meet you! I accept most insurances, including Medicaids. Send me an email and we can verify this prior to working together. I graduated from GVSU with my Bachelor’s of Social Work and Master’s of Social work. I have two black labs, am married to my college sweetheart, and we have a toddler son who keeps us on our toes! In my free time, I love reading, taking our dogs for walks, and riding my horse, Atlas, in eventing and jumping. Feel free to shoot me an email to connect!
Accepting the journey, we've been on and the need for change can feel overwhelming. Often therapy is seen as a one-sided conversation, let's change that narrative together. As your therapist, it is important to me to create a relationship where you feel safe and supported. We can explore what acceptance, healing, and growth means to you and create a plan to achieve those goals. I am passionate about working with teens and adults experiencing life transitions, anxiety, depression, women's mental health, PTSD, and identity development. I offer engaging, honest conversation to encourage accountability towards growth and acceptance. I believe that you have the capacity for growth when you feel seen, heard, and respected. Bring your emotional support water bottle or coffee and let's get to work on creating the best version of yourself.
Although we have little control over the hand that life deals us, I believe in the hope that it is never too late to heal, to learn new and more effective behaviors…to create the life that you have always dreamed of living. What does it take to get there? What is holding you back? Those answers lie within each one of us. I enjoy creating an alliance with my clients, to be a guide in their own journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and acceptance. I believe in creating an environment that balances just the right amount of acceptance and change; one that is safe, nonjudgmental, and validating. I look forward to joining with you, exactly where you are, in your life journey. I have worked at Therapy Today since March 2012, and have worked in the mental health field for 25 years providing treatment services in private practice, schools, and in social service agencies, notably Community Mental Health of Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Counties. I have provided case management and individual and group therapy to adults with serious and persistent mental illness. I have supervised a multidisciplinary case management team of more than 20 clinical and support staff, and provided specialty supervision to staff on the comprehensive Dialectical Behavioral Treatment team. I have worked with co-occurring disorders to maintain compliance with state standards for evidence-based practices, coordinated outpatient services for those discharging from psychiatric facilities, and provided re-entry services for returning citizens who are paroling from prison.
Transition to college can be tough, even for the most prepared students. We love working with young adults on the issues of college adjustment, anxiety/perfectionism, depression, social issues and many other challenges. We offer in-person services in our Bloomfield Hills location or teletherapy from your own room (in bunny slippers, if you prefer!)
We could all use a little help at some point and a safe place to receive support. Seeking help and counseling is a courageous act. I’m here to help you explore aspects of your life that may be too hard to look at on your own, gain clarity in areas that you can’t quite make sense of yet and illuminate skills, resources and values that have been muddled for you. I am deeply committed to helping my clients heal and thrive as they cope with anxiety, depression, stress, perfectionism, body image concerns, relationship difficulties, identity changes, etc. I utilize an empathic and collaborative approach to provide culturally sensitive treatment tailored to your needs and goals. Together we will work towards increasing self and relational awareness, identifying and processing emotions, highlighting strengths and values and fostering acceptance.

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” -Buddha If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem or stress related to life transitions, I am here to help. I have over 18 years of experience working in both inpatient and outpatient substance-abuse treatment settings including: rehabilitation, detoxification, methadone and suboxone clinics, and county jail substance use treatment. From our practice website: "We understand that going to see a therapist can be a very difficult decision. We are committed to ensuring our clients are treated with the utmost respect and sensitivity. Initially, we work with the the client to gain an understanding of their concerns. From there, we create and implement a treatment plan geared to the client (or families) goals. We actively and continuously seek feedback to make sure that our clients are getting their needs met. Research has consistently demonstrated that the quality of the relationship between a therapist and their client is at the core of whether therapy will be successful. Using our skills and experiences, we work to create a safe and trusting environment to meet your goals. We use a strength-based approach in working with our clients. Often, we build upon these strengths to create interventions that will help. We utilize evidenced based treatments whenever possible. This means the approaches we use are well researched and found to be helpful in addressing the presenting challenges. Our team continues to receive training and professional development as we believe that as therapists we are never done learning. When we work with children and teens, we believe that parents are the expert. We believe parental involvement is a critical component of the treatment. Our approach is to create a “team environment” that includes the child, family, school (when necessary), physician, and therapist to provide the optimal level of support to address whatever problems the child is experiencing. Since the child is the most important person in this effort, he or she becomes the “captain” of this team. We will always address your child respectfully and in a developmentally appropriate manor. We know and appreciate that you are entrusting us with you or a family member’s care. We will do everything we can to make our work together a helpful and enriching experience."
