There is no “right” way to do therapy, and people need different kinds of help depending on their current life situation and stage of life. Some clients are in need of coping skills to help them with communication, emotion regulation and getting through stressful times. Other clients are looking for help finding meaning and purpose in their day to day lives. I use a combination of mindfulness, dream work, interpersonal skills, guided meditation, coping skills and active imagination to help clients find relief from symptoms related to anxiety, depression, lack of meaning, and struggles in their relationships. Over the last 25 years, I have worked in a variety of clinical settings helping people with various psychological difficulties including combat related issues, severe and persistent mental illness, cumulative relational trauma, psychological struggles related to brain injury, and trauma related to disasters and violence. I believe the goal of therapy is not necessarily to help clients pursue a “happier” life, or even self-awareness for the sake of self-awareness, but to better be able to bring a more soulful way of living back out into their lives; their families and relationships, communities, and the greater world.

Esther Horowitz MA, LPC, CCTP is a bilingual (Spanish/English) mental health counselor who graduated as a Clinical Psychologist from Universidad San Francisco de Quito, (Ecuador) in 2013. She held a private practice in Ecuador for a year, working with the Spanish-speaking population, before getting her Masters Degree at Naropa University in 2018. Esther has worked in various environments including working with court-ordered clients for DUI, DV, and Anger Management. Esther has worked at CU Boulder since 2018 supporting staff and faculty offering bilingual counseling for individuals, couples and families. Esther has worked with individuals, families, relationships/couples for over a decade and is passionate about a holistic approach to mental health. A lot of clients do not feel comfortable with talk therapy, so Esther applies writing and drawing to her sessions to enhance the work that can be done collaboratively between client and counselor. Esther understands that counseling can be intimidating, so you may set up a 15 minute free consultation to see if this is a good fit for you. Feel free to reach out via email or phone, and she will get back to you in no more than 48 business hours.

Are You Still Struggling to Feel Better When You Feel Overwhelmed? Have you already seen medical professionals or therapists to help recover from an accident, injury, medical procedure, assault or childhood abuse, and you still don’t feel significantly better? Does it seem as though you are: Anxious after recurring trauma nightmares? Suffering from PTSD due to military actions or war? Terrified that you will have yet another accident? Overwhelmed with anxiety and don’t understand why? Tired of swinging between angry outbursts and going numb? Depressed because you feel like damaged goods after a trauma? Exhausted from dealing with digestive problems, migraines, and chronic pain which medicines don’t seem to help? Body-centered approach Using a short-term natural therapy approach, I help you to understand and trust that your body knows exactly how to recover from a serious threat. By attending to body sensations as well as thoughts and feelings, trauma symptoms can significantly ease or go away. As a result, you can: Go into strange environments feeling more relaxed: you won’t worry about looking foolish by over reacting to a sound or someone’s comment. Know you can return to a more normal work or school life and even have energy to take on new projects. Have fewer angry outbursts, which scare family members away. Stop reliving the memory of the trauma over and over. Feel confident that you know if it’s ok for someone to touch you. You are not the only one How you are feeling is a very common way people respond to the stress of trauma. Many of my clients feel shame or judge themselves for not being able “to cope”. It is not unusual to hear them blame themselves for getting so upset over a “minor” accident. They feel stupid or “too sensitive” about having allowed something that happened long ago to still affect them. Many believe their life has spun out of control and they find it difficult to get on with their lives. I do accept Victim's Compensation payments

I work with adolescents and adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression or have been through tough times and want to heal from trauma. College specifically can be a difficult time emotionally, moving into adulthood and living on your own for the first time. Therapy can be a great way to process these changes, learn new ways to cope with stress, and get resources and support. I'd love to chat.

You are insightful, sensitive, and often hard on yourself — even when no one else sees it. Maybe you’ve learned to cope by staying busy, staying strong, or staying small. But beneath the surface, you’re longing for more: more peace, more connection, more truth. I work with college students navigating anxiety, trauma, self-worth, relationship struggles, and life transitions

“With adversity comes opportunity” from the I Ching- Or Book of Changes The decision to seek therapy can be due to times of stress or the desire to seek change. We know that change is not always a straight path. To take a “road less traveled” can be filled with a beautiful river that flows and leads to clarity or it be a be a river filled with large boulders that need to be traversed with help and support. Therapy can be a tool that facilitates resilience and transformation. My approach in therapy is to first engage in a process of discovery. As your therapist, we will work together to discover what events, situations, and relationships in your life or your past do not work for you now. It is really important to understand how your life works in order to set goals and create change. Most importantly, it is important to remember that change affects all the people in your life. My goal is to help you find new ways to relate to the world and to enable you to embrace your experiences more fully and bravely. I hope to do this by creating a safe, open, and collaborative environment where you can experiment with new ways of relating to yourself and others. I bring in skills from therapies, such as ACT and DBT, to help you find your strengths and develop your resources. And I recognize that the most growth occurs in an authentic relationship which balances compassion with challenge and emphasizes social justice and intersectionality. Having recovered from an eating disorder, I approach my work from a Health-at-Every-Size and fat-positive framework. All bodies are good bodies, all foods are good foods, and all emotions are valid. I also have experience working with interpersonal trauma, grief, relationship struggles, disordered eating and body image concerns, and identity development, as well as anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns.

Throughout my 25 years of experience, I have worked with a wide range of counseling and therapy modalities. I'm bilingual in English and Hebrew and can offer services in both languages. One of the most important elements of therapy is finding the right fit. To explore whether working with me feels right for you, please email me at ornapele@gmail.com. You’re feeling stuck and you are so ready to make progress, but you’re questioning every decision. You hear people talk about “inner knowing” but you are so disconnected that it feels like your compass is broken, and you have no idea which way to go, or how to get there, or where “there” is. Feeling stuck, confused, unsure how to move forward - these can be related to anxiety and depression, or they can be the symptoms of going through big life transitions. Or both. If you find yourself scrolling through social media, numbing out with Netflix, waking up dreading the day, or just feeling a bit lost — I’m here for you. My therapeutic style is non-judgemental, but also honest. With your permission, I will brainstorm with you, make suggestions and offer guidance. I won’t give you my answers as if they are the only right ones. The answers are inside you. My job is to help you bring them to the surface. My specialty is in helping you to get in touch with your inner knowing so you can navigate life transitions with clarity and confidence, move through grief, process trauma, get a grip on overwhelm and anxiety, and find the best way to move forward. I can’t wait to meet you.

My expertise is in helping people change how they feel or behave using evidence-based therapy and guidance. I focus on building a trusting relationship in which you feel open to discuss and work on whatever aspects of your life that you are hoping to change. People tell me they quickly feel at ease talking with me. Together we assess what feelings, thoughts or behaviors you would like to change or feel differently about or how you would like a relationship to be different. We make goals together to guide this process. I then guide you on how to make these changes, sustain them, and assess when you have attained them.

Hi! My main goal is always to help my clients to help themselves, so you feel empowered to embrace stress and change as it comes. With experience working in an eating disorder hospital and 7 years working as a therapist in the Athletic Depts at UT Austin and CU Boulder, I've been involved with supporting my clients through the life challenges that high schoolers, young adults, and adults face for my entire professional career. I am EMDR certified and use this to treat trauma, eating disorders, chronic pain, urges in addiction/EDs, and sport performance (both positive reinforcement as well as treating mental blocks). I particularly enjoy teaching tools for navigating anxiety and depressive symptoms, helping to make peace with body image, and supporting mental performance for sport. I also have a passion for supporting perfectionists to expand their view of themselves and learn to release a little of the control that is actually controlling them!

My practice is about helping you connect to your most authentic self to create a more meaningful life, using a blend of somatic awareness, mindfulness practices, and compassionate guidance. As a somatic therapist, I take a body-based, trauma-informed approach that helps clients better regulate emotions and stress by developing greater mind-body awareness. If you've struggled with anxiety, depression, trauma, or just the ups and downs of life, and you've found that thinking or talking about it has not brought you sustained relief, then body-based psychotherapy might be the right fit for you. In a world where we are often told to "push through" and "tough it out" we can lose our connection to what we are feeling. When we connect to our feelings we can better recognize what we truly need, and take the steps to cultivate a life full of purpose, meaning, and fulfillment. Many of my clients are young adults navigating transitions such as starting college or careers, wanting to build healthier and more meaningful relationships, or exploring their sense of identity and purpose. Together, we’ll explore therapeutic strategies that align with your unique needs and goals. In our sessions, we can work on stress and anxiety reduction, processing trauma, developing greater self compassion and awareness, and more. Request a free 20-minute consultation to see if working together would be a fit.
